What single thing is all the world
Is cherished most by me,
The one thing above all others
That I hope will always be.
The thing that puts my mind to ease
Like a balmy summers night
Or takes the daily pressures
And makes them seem all right.
This thing I hope I'll always have
And never more be blue,
Is family around me till my last breath
And to be with friends like you.

I took no offence
But I got kind of tense
Not at the suggestion
Thought I'd not paid attention
To something I'd said
On this rather long thread
Went up and down pages
Well it took me ages
Then suddenly eureka
I think I should seek a
Thread that I mailed ya
Offending Australia
Well that's where I found
That Capitol faux pas
At last I relaxed
And played my guitar
But I took no offence
I'm a humble old writer
As Michael Jackson once said
I'm a lover not a fighter

Such soothing words
From you, my fair Knight
And mild mannered Chris,
Who does'nt care for a fight
With friends like these,
Try as I might,
With confused acusations
About which what or whom (I always feel a prat using that word)
The bonds that hold us
Stay mighty and true.

We sing, we play
We twang, and we natter
All through the day
As we slowly get fatter
There's nothing that's finer
In all of the world
As this bus and it's driver
Who is busy with matters
Concerning his Dad
In poor health, I'm afraid
Which is downright too sad.

But one day I know
He'll get back on the bus
And lead us in driving
This rabble called 'us'
To places were no man
Has dared go before
Well, at least since that "Star Trek"
Graced our tellies of yor
I seem to be rambling
And have quite lost my way
So I'll give you a rest
And call it a day (until someone replies )

I was going to post
As the forum was quiet
But then Noodler went classical
And got me enthused
So I drifted away
From writing a muse
Checked out Vanessa Mae
As I know that she's cool
Then I had tea
And came back over here
So Carol hello
It's good to see ya
It is quite sad
That Kenny's not here
Been gone for a while
Missing his tunes
And his posts made me smile
I hope that he's okay
And that soon he returns
Hope that he knows
That we miss him too
So Kenny here's a message
We're all missing you.

Indeed we are, Chris
With his jokes and his tunes
There's never a dull moment
With his mirrors and fumes
I know he pops in,
To see where we're at
I love to make comments
That increase his hat (size)
So we all hope you're fine, Ken
And hope that you're well
When you come back to drive us
We'll all think that's swell.

We'll cheer and we'll holler
Make a terrible din
Turn cartwheels and damage
The old bodies we're in
But what do we care?
(She says with abandon)
We'll leap in the air
And kiss strangers at random
It'll be on the news
And the whole world will hear...
I don't know where I'm going.....
.......Over the top!
That much is clear.

I kissed a stranger
And I got arrested
I thought at the time
She wasn't interested
The judge wasn't kind
Said I was a fool
That kissing strange girls
Is not very cool
Your twenty a day habit
Makes the whole thing
Quite cruel
I looked at him smugly
And said man she was ugly
My actions were hasty
My intentions lacked clarity
But to me they were right
For her it was charity
She chased me for 3 blocks
Shouting will you marry me
So I'm at your mercy
My jape it backfired
Give me a long sentence
I feel tired and harassed
The girl won't let go
Camps out on my grass
She liked me kissing her lips
Said I should kiss her a a a
Again, but it's causing me pain
I'm going insane
So please lock me up
Save me from this Harridan
I've made a mistake
It's not gone to plan
I've paid a high price
For a charitable man

A jolly jape!
Haven't heard that one in years
It's up there with others like
Wet behind the ears
'What larks!' was in favour
When we were in school
It comes from that tale
'bout how young men are fools
It was penned by Charles Dickens
Do you feel like a quizz?
I'll let this plot thicken
Give the weekend some fizz

I said it in days
When the kids were both small
They found it amusing
As you do when you're 4
I would sing to them also
When making the tea
On those cold winter mornings
How we danced, them and me.

There was Tea for Two (cha cha)
And then somehow it morphed
A few bars of la la
Then that Bicycle - who for?
Why, for Two of us, silly!
'Cos you cannot have more.....
'I'm a little teapot
Short and stout
Here is my handle
Here is my spout.........'
I digress!

Now that they're older
They don't care for my singing
And my dancing's not much
Of a temptation for sinning....

But what do I care!
I'll sing and I'll dance
Let them grimmace and glare
It will give them a chance
To practice their hurling
Of tomatoes and such
I can dodge all their missiles
As I twirl this old crutch -
I need one these days
'Cos I was practicing my leaping
My cartwheels and kissing
Of strangers in keeping
With my plans for the day
When our old friend X4
Will drive us away
When he climbs back on board

I thought I'd best answer
There was hesitation
But I thought to myself
You have Great Expectations
So I thought it best to in this situation
I did those rhymes, made up my own
But the children would sigh
And then they would groan
Made up one once about a Garden Centre
But they didn't respect me as a song inventor
I remember some words I'll recite them to you
The Garden Centre do do do do
It's kind of laidback
Most of it's crooned
But the kids didn't like it
They just screamed and booed
I told them off, said it was rude
To make fun of your Father
When he's made you a tune
I sing it today but they still leave the room
But it must have been catchy
They know the words to the song
It might not have been good
But it wasn't all wrong
I can't do cartwheels
Can do forward rolls
Can jump in the air
Cos it's good for my soul
Well so I've been told
But carthweels no
I'm getting too old
Kissing is fine
As it's good for my lips
Unlike the cartwheels
Which ruin my hips
Better go know
As I'm losing my grip
And rambling free
Among meadows so sweet
And lapwings are nibbling at my feet
They nest in the ground
The silly young fools
Don't know that birds live in trees
They take their lives in their hands
But the rest of the birds said
You make a stand
Against that Farmer man
We're right behind you
Every last one
The lapwings looked round
And they'd all bl**dy gone
They'd taken to the trees
No lapwings allowed
So that's why all lapwings
Are stuck on the ground
I don't think I should
But maybe I oughta
It's not really true
But they don't live in trees
They kind of like water
Cos wading is fun
But they like open ground
So they are pretty dumb
They get sort of nervous
If they see a tractor
Some just don't see it come
And when it is gone
They look a lot flatter

You don't stop laughing when you grow old; you grow old when you stop laughing.

Well done, Chris, you guessed it
How clever you are
Did you learn that in school
Or pick it up in a bar?
Young Pip had a link
With this Down Under place
Never dreamed in my youth
That one day I'd grace (!)
The very same shores,
When I was long in the tooth
And had finished my chores.

There is quite a difference
I would like to explain
I was never a convict
Though I can be a pain
I came voluntarily
No one brought me in chains
They used handcuffs quite sparingly
If you tossed them some change.

Your lapwings do sound
Like they need some advice
I heard that an oak tree
Can sometimes be nice
If you care about living
A long happy life
But sometimes that doesn't
Go down well with the wife.

We used to go hunting
For plover eggs (blue?)
They nest on the ground
Like me and like you
My brothers were devils-
Collected bird's eggs and moths
I tagged along always
Cos that's what you do
When they're a bit older
And you're only 2.
When they spotted a bird's nest
They'd pilfer and steal
They said, birds never notice
They can't count beyond three
They made pin holes each end
Then they blew and they puffed
Went quite red in the face
Until they were stuffed.

Their collections of bird's eggs,
Moths, and butterflies, grew
I don't know why they did it
I don't think anyone knew
I liked to go with them
Across fields and through woods
I liked to go adventuring
Like all kids would if they could
We rambled all day
And only came home
When our stomachs were empty
And we'd stolen a gnome.....*

*it's late, I'm tired, and I needed a rhyme.
Goodnight.

So glad to see, this thread still at work
50 some pages, with non 'too' berserk
But have to admit, I'm somewhat a tad rusty
My rhyming has dried, and turned a bit crusty
But alas fear not, my singing poets in waiting
My muse she's a stirring, and feels like creating
Sad part clear as day, is she's not quite there yet
But she'll come around, on that you can bet
Then hold onto your seat, for things they shall fly
Because she writes what she want's, never wondering why
Her only trouble today, is the medium that she chose
It's hard to express, thru a mind on a doze
So just a fair warning, X4 will be back
Writing like always, like always the hack

Hi there ol' Buddy!
Glad you dropped by
Your muse is eternal
And never will die
We write from our * here (choose anatomical part that's relevant on the day)
No need to ask "Why"
Some days are rusty
And others quite mad
A good place for the heart
If it feels a bit sad.

This bus is a go-er
It just trundles along
We pick up some passengers -
We can even write songs!
If the driver has things
That need all his heart
We keep ever onward -
It's a trusty old cart -
A lurch to left
And a swerve to the right
Go in for a service, or
Ramble on through the night
There is one special place
That's reserved just for you
Our driver, and founder
X4, King of the Blues.

I know - I sound like a Hallmark card........

Welcome Back Kenny
To school and to group.
We have been lacking in numbers
In this musical troupe.
Some join in here and there
And stay for a day,
But only for a moment
And then they are away.
Kind of like the ocean
In and out like the tide,
Sometimes life is short
But boy what a ride.
