Well done, Chris, you guessed it
How clever you are
Did you learn that in school
Or pick it up in a bar?
Young Pip had a link
With this Down Under place
Never dreamed in my youth
That one day I'd grace (!)
The very same shores,
When I was long in the tooth
And had finished my chores.
There is quite a difference
I would like to explain
I was never a convict
Though I can be a pain
I came voluntarily
No one brought me in chains
They used handcuffs quite sparingly
If you tossed them some change.
Your lapwings do sound
Like they need some advice
I heard that an oak tree
Can sometimes be nice
If you care about living
A long happy life
But sometimes that doesn't
Go down well with the wife.
We used to go hunting
For plover eggs (blue?)
They nest on the ground
Like me and like you
My brothers were devils-
Collected bird's eggs and moths
I tagged along always
Cos that's what you do
When they're a bit older
And you're only 2.
When they spotted a bird's nest
They'd pilfer and steal
They said, birds never notice
They can't count beyond three
They made pin holes each end
Then they blew and they puffed
Went quite red in the face
Until they were stuffed.
Their collections of bird's eggs,
Moths, and butterflies, grew
I don't know why they did it
I don't think anyone knew
I liked to go with them
Across fields and through woods
I liked to go adventuring
Like all kids would if they could
We rambled all day
And only came home
When our stomachs were empty
And we'd stolen a gnome.....*
*it's late, I'm tired, and I needed a rhyme.
Goodnight.

One good thing about music is that when it hits you, you feel no pain - Bob Marley
