Our University song

The poem before the song...

Staring at the flickering screen
my eyes begin to numb
I go and grab some more caffeine
what have I now done
an office chair at home so plush
tucked in a corner space
just sitting here when came a rush
brought a smile right to my face
its 1 AM this days been long
its time I go to bed
I'll close this out with a new song
that just popped in my head

First let me say
to get it out of the way
dimple with simple I choose
but what do I know
I just go with the flow
leave stuff like that for my muse

The style change you desire
has sparked my own fire
another way would be good I admit
to learn a new skill
is always a thrill
but on the subject I don't know...a bit

And its not Clancy to blame
I hope you don't feel shame
its not that big of a deal
but I'm not quite that clear
please answer me dear
is it a new thread we need to reveal

Didn’t mean to be cryptic
But at times there’s a big stick
That hovers and fills me with dread
Its to do with the household
That demands time or blindfold
Or the mess gets too much for my head.

Concerning this thread
No need to have dread
Those rules only apply if we’re stupid
We must only stay sane
And keep this side of pain
And, if possible, don’t mention cupid.

----- o ----- o ------ o -----

I have been trying to change
My rhyming scheme
And its not as easy as it might seem
The limerick’s grip has held me fast
And everything else feels very strange.
Already I feel the meter slip
As I struggle to rhyme and yet break free
I resist, I resist, but the pull is strong
Can anyone please help me?

Where to start
on writing lyrics
a new way
can't be hard
its our art
who's to say

Try three words
make it rhyme
using no more
try to say
a message too
its a chore

Three words only?
Could get lonely
A message too
And make'm rhyme?
Is that cheating?
Hard to know
More questions here
Than answers true.

Have a heart
I'm trying hard
Its not easy!
'Don't get queasy'
Is the message
To take home
(More for me
Than readers few).

Got my stanzas
In a pickle
Do they rhyme
Enough to count?
I'm not sure -
You can judge
Give a nickel
Not a punch.

Excuse my small diversion
A perversion set in rhyme
This different style, made me smile
Oh the joy of a vertical line

I shall refrain
Again I won't
Partake in such a folly
I tend to find
Sometimes my mind
Finds daft things
Rather Jolly

A line as such is a beautiful thing
Though bends are graceful to
Most daft things are jolly
Never meant to be Blue
And if you find this rambling
Take heart I am near the end
Of lines and bends and jolly
While talking with a friend

Knight from Alabama
Can cram a line in anywhere
This thread will be notorius
The rhymes they are serene
Some lines are rather glorious
And none of them obscene

Writing a poem or a song
a fun trip all along
like a starsailor at knight
its quite often delight
when reading a line thats strong

I thought that you'd gone AWOL, Kenny
Bending brain cells over there
In that thread where all or many
Views on lyrics and poems are said.
'Hard to say' is what I'm thinking
Many people disagree, (but)
I'm just happy to have options
Aren't we lucky thought is free.

Howdy Knight, so glad you've joined us
Jolly nice to see you here
I like your choice of words as well -
'Bends' and 'grace' and 'beauty' take me
Back to days of younger year.

I'm just back from the guitar store
And best of all (because I'm tight)
It cost me nothing, advice was free
And now my guitar's sounding right.

I notice that I've come adrift
I've broken free of rigid rhyme
Long gone the Limerick, but now I find
I've lost control of all the lines.

I told some friends, Chris
Of our challenge-
Playing left et-cet-ar-a
And how you said
That at the moment
You were toiling in my wake
They responded - (Oh so funny!)
'Was that in, or at my wake?'
