Our University song

The poem before the song...

Staring at the flickering screen
my eyes begin to numb
I go and grab some more caffeine
what have I now done
an office chair at home so plush
tucked in a corner space
just sitting here when came a rush
brought a smile right to my face
its 1 AM this days been long
its time I go to bed
I'll close this out with a new song
that just popped in my head

Yes punching in and out is a great feature many are aware of. But what I am talking about is listening to your vocals and verses on head phones in one track while playing through the arrangement and recording in another track for the final improved product, then removing the so called help track. Think of it as a singing coach reminding you of timing, volume, and adjustments to the vocals.
You can then punch the new vocals in for correct placement into track.
As a matter of fact, you can also stretch or shorten the vocals for music placement on current track if they are out of time and use it as an aid for your new track. Sometimes it is easier to sing along with someone than to do it alone. I think we have all been there at one time or another.
So sing it to the music and possibly forget the lyrics, or use all the help aid.
Now of course you don't get this in a live performance...................... or do they? Often wondered why performers headphones while singing. Of course I know there are other reasons included. Almost like Karaoke except you are the real thing in the final take.
Thanks for your help Eddiez, I did this with the Born withit blues song, not perfect but I'm getting the hang of it, when I'm playing at home I don't have a problem it's just when I record but I need to put more effort into doing it properly

Where have all our students gone?
Girls/guys have picked them every one
When will they ever return?
When will they ever return?

The students have all gone astray
But I thought I'd return today
To say hello or as you say G'day
These lulls have come now and again
As people worked around their lives
With wives and children, work and play
It does get hectic along the way
A lot of us have been working along
The lines of producing creative songs
I had fun with a collaboration
Carols song was pure creation
The work produced caused fascination
I'm sure quite soon the students will appear
When the fog of life it starts to clear
So I will wait for their return
Carol's here already
So now we wait with patience for
Knight, Doty, X4String, Nutty and Eddie
Etcetera as I know there's more
Been through the door of the University

Just to prove I'm not quite sane
Here's what's running through my brain........

If I die before I wake
Put my order on the slate
Toast this life with all its woes
‘Coz in the end, that’s how life goes.

Or maybe....

If I die before I wake
Put my order on the slate
Toast my life and be upstanding
And pray I get a nice soft landing.

What about this Carol, I've gone all Religious

If dead in bed one day I'm found
I'll hope that I go up not down
To be honest, in all earnest
I'd rather Angels than a furnace

I lived a good life straight and true
The odd mistake I'm human too
So God please listen to my prayer
And don't let me end up down there

I'm sure that hell has some incentives
Will keep me warm in colder winters
But I've heard bad feedback from dissenters
So through pearly gates I wish to enter

As I'm still here, give me a sign
Things to correct while there's still time
I'd rather you passed on advice to me
As doing nothing could be risky

Shall I stop chasing girls and drinking whisky
Laughing while the policemen frisk me
Shall I help the sick and poor
For ladies should I open doors

Should I always love thy neighbour
Do an honest days labour
Pray tell good Lord what should I be
I'll go to hell if you don't answer me

I know you're busy but I need answers
The stakes are too high to take chances
I'm waiting here for your suggestions
For now I just have one more question

If I die before I wake
Put my order on a slate
Toast my life and be upstanding
Can you give me a soft landing

That's it for now Lord,
I've made my plea
See you later
Hopefully

Sorry I have been absent
Life has been in a tizzy,
So much running around in circles
Has made me quite dizzy.
Writing a little and playing some
Hard to tell where the time had gone,
Grandkids and wife and odd bits of strife
Hard to tell where I might have gone wrong.
But the light at the end of the tunnel is bright
I shall stop and no longer complain
I just hope that the light is a beacon
And not the headlight of a train.

Hi Knight good to see you back
Sounds like you need to
Get off the beaten track
Put your feet up and relax
Don't get run down
The lights could be the sun
And signify a time of fun
Hope you come out of the tunnel
Discover less busy ways
Find a place more peaceful
Have time to laze on Summer days

Things are starting to unwind
A little time to myself I find
And I can't complain life's been kind
For all of the rest I just don't mind.

That light you see is a beacon alright
Follow your music and your future is bright
Playing and singing a song with friends
Right here at this site where all worries end
No-matter how much life gets in the way
The sun still rises every day -
Here's where we all are free to play
And sing what our hearts are longing to say
A few quick strums and a tune to hum
Will banish the blues from anyone.
