Our University song

The poem before the song...

Staring at the flickering screen
my eyes begin to numb
I go and grab some more caffeine
what have I now done
an office chair at home so plush
tucked in a corner space
just sitting here when came a rush
brought a smile right to my face
its 1 AM this days been long
its time I go to bed
I'll close this out with a new song
that just popped in my head

How about this? wish I could rhyme as good as that
low flying crow, quacky duck, well, I tip my hat
fried butterflies with dippin daisies and a tasty sauce
to compete with you near dinner time, well, I'm at a loss

Competing with me at dinner time
Is something that most folks decline
The best thing I've found,
(And it's nothing profound)
It's called 'Chef's Rights'
And there's no need to fight
It's just elbows and knees,
And then no 'If you please'
Then, to the world at large.....
"Back off, you lot! - I'm in charge!"

I can't help but notice, in the last few days
Our students have not been writing their phrase(s)
Off doing something worth-while, I guess
Instead of chatting here, in rhyme to invest
In songwriting skills - yeah I know it's a stretch
But maybe rhymes here, can sometimes mesh
With thoughts we may have, about writing our lyrics
(What else rhymes with lyrics, but the same old 'hysterics'?)

If it's put to a vote
I would vote to continue
Whenever you can
Any style, rhyme, or venue
A line or two, now and again
Will banish the angst and the pain
That can sometimes arise
When we search for the prize
Of a bank balance fat
(Or a satisfied cat).

So Chris, Knight, Doty, Jess and our Ken
And anyone else who is feeling a yen
To rhyme and converse
With a little mad verse
I hope you continue to post -
Our Ken is the host
And he's better than most
At steering the ship
They say he's a chip (Mmmm!)
Off the block, (of something or other)
'Though he's more like a brother
He also has talent, (- and then some!)
So do come and join us, everyone's welcome.

I haven't been around much
So thought that I'd say hi
I've been popping in and out
Then doing other things
I've written a few songs
Bought some Balalaika strings
Now I've got to tune it
Not the easiest of things
Hope you guys are doing well
I am going strong
Bit slow on the studio front
I need pushing along
Had some jobs around the place
That people wanted doing
Killing weeds and digging beds
Helping out with the horses
Mowing lawns at work
For our guys in the forces
But everthing will get done
In the fullness of time
Just thought that I'd say hello
And post this ode of mine.

You don't stop laughing when you grow old; you grow old when you stop laughing.

The times they are a changing
and folks have things to do
I though on the other hand
have been dealing with the flu
I've been peeking in now again
but not like I'm known to do
my body needed a rest you know
I'm sure you enjoyed it too
but alas I hate to say it
I'm beginning to feel just fine
soon be back to my usual self
lol I can hear some of you wine

Hope you get well soon Kenny
Flu isn't that much fun
Good to hear recovery
Has already begun
Healing mojo sent today
Just to help you on your way
Carol's gone off line
Access has gone astray
Hope she'll soon be up to speed
So more verses we can read
My system crashed yesterday
Needed a big troubleshoot
Turns out it's the phone line
They had trouble with supply
Had to increase bandwidth
My use was very high
But now it's all been sorted
Well as best I can
So everything is peachy
And I'm a happy man

Hello one and all
Sorry I've been gone awhile.
Took a trip along the coast
Charleston, South Carolina I liked most.
Saw beautiful mansions in Eufaula, Alabama
Ate peanut butter ice cream in Plains (oh Mama!!)
The azaleas and dogwood were at their peak
The beauty leat me breathless, unable to speak!
Nine day bus tour, packed with shows and food
Heard some opera, some country, all was good.
Now I'm home and exhausted from so much fun
However, I'm already planning for the next one.
I love to travel and see the sights.
This one was well planned and what a delight.
My guitars are calling... wondering was I lost?
I'll have to practice double, there's always a cost
But my fingers are still calloused and ready to strum
So a little vacation didn't seem to hurt none!!!

Aunt Doty it sounds like you had a blast
Glad the trip was so much fun
I love Eufaula in the Springtime
Before we wilt in the Summer sun.
Peanut Butter Ice Cream and dogwoods
Sound like Heaven to me
I love to travel around the Country
But Home is where I truly love to be.

A very nice surprise
Hello Knight and Eddie
Are you having a good day
Aunt Doty good to see that you
Had a good time away
Kenny are you getting better
Hope now you're feeling fine
The icing on the cake will be
When Carol is back on line

Oh lord what has become
of this thread I've gone dumb
can't seem to rhyme to save my soul
at least playing guitar is still my goal
it seems as though we're on a break
just as well my rhyming's are fake
hope to see you all real soon
and I hope it is before june

Where oh where can our Carol be?
I miss her jolly rhymes you see.
I'm hoping that she's feeling fine
And that dang computer is back online!

Kenny, I've had that problem for some time.
Many's the day when I can't make a rhyme.
I fret and I fume about my addled brain,
The words won't come, what a sad refrain.

Goodnight all!

Hi there guys I’m back on line
To me, it feels like a very long time
Since last I read your rhymes and news-
Without your words I have had the blues

For two whole weeks we’ve been off line
The story’s not too easy to rhyme
But it all began when our wannabee techy
Thought he’d surprise us with ADSL2
(Instead of 1), which kind of threw me
Just when I thought, we were plain sailing
After our woes with our router failing.

Today we’re back on line again
It’s true, it’s faster, but it’s been a pain
First the line was thought to blame
But that was fixed, and still the same-
No internet would come our way
No-one could fix it day after day

So yet another modem was bought
And then we waited for some odd sort
Of switch they said still had to be thrown
At some location that was far from home.

So now it seems we’re back on air
In some ways I liked it, to be fair
Because I played much more guitar
But sadly, I’m not yet a star.

My inbox groans with all the mail
I have to answer or toss in the pail
For days I’ll have to sort things out
But, in one department there is no doubt-
My mood has lifted high already
Reading through the posts from Kenny
Chris, and Knight, Aunt Doty and Eddie.

For two whole weeks I have not rhymed
A single thought, so now I’m primed
To try to write some songs, I hope
As with my emails, I try to cope.

Right now, I’m smiling ear to ear
To be back home, with friends so dear
I sure have missed you lot, it’s true
And no need now, for feeling blue.

Carol m nice to see your back on line
I hope your system is now doing fine
I know that many can share their same thought
With similar reasons to be so distraught

Somehow we all do overcome
From what some tekkie may have done
Another battle carefully won
Again you have contact with everyone

No doubt your mail must have been stacked
With writings that would fill up the crack
In the hours of time as you must have read
Collective writings that could swirl your head

I popped into class to see who was here
And see some students that share some good cheer
A friendly reminder that it can all go well
And I have no doubt that it always shall

As rhyming you know can be loads of fun
For those that are here and everyone
I trust that you will continue conducting the class
With words of your wisdom that you may pass

As for me its music, that is all I hear
In the written words that I have see here
A challenge I enjoy and always will
Until the music becomes hauntingly still

Now its time to go
There is so much work at hand
Back to the real world
I hope my classmates do understand
Carol,Knight and sailor, Doty and all the rest
All my good wishes, truly the best

I closing I reflect on what Dylan once wrote
"Writers and critics through out the Land
Don't criticize what you don't understand."

Carol and Eddie its good to be back
A trip to DC barely time to unpack
And then on to Birmingham the one in LA
Then back to the house a while there to stay
Not much time for playing it makes me so sad
When things interfer I become quite mad
I hope lifes slows a bit, though not to much
Then I can play somemore Blues, Rock and such
Well the time for sleeping is now at hand
I will bid you good evening from this Southern land
