Our University song
The poem before the song...
Staring at the flickering screen
my eyes begin to numb
I go and grab some more caffeine
what have I now done
an office chair at home so plush
tucked in a corner space
just sitting here when came a rush
brought a smile right to my face
its 1 AM this days been long
its time I go to bed
I'll close this out with a new song
that just popped in my head

Hi Aunt Dotty, how is it going?
Did you just arrive on a big fat Boeing?
In case anyone feels, that they are to blame
I'm sure it is me who goes on and on - and lame!
But do you know what? I just can't stop
It's so nice to chat with our Uni friends here,
And, of course, with you, our own Aunt Dot.
Don't feel too bad, Dot, about the poor cat
It's really all bluster, of this and of that-
You have to have someone, to take all the blame
If all that you do, turns out to be lame. ( )

What do you want to sing? asks young Chris
I’d like to say, singing without Gorgon hiss
But, to sing something in tune, is all that I hope for
But sadly, on that count, I think that I’m done for.

Aunt Doty good to see you again
Arriving on a big jet plane
The madness passed I am now sane
The therapy caused me some pain
Electric shocks they singed my locks
But now my sanity it's restored
I do songs like that when I get bored
It was though fun and really out there
Not worth the price of burning hair
The Doctor said avoid cheap thrills
And just keep taking those wee pills
I said I'm not in need of diaretics
And then collapsed into hysterics
I thought Middens were made for hands
Not rubbish dumps from foreign lands
That they kept your digits snug and warm
Now it seems they just attract a swarm
Of flies that grace most summer days
Far from the Midden crowd a classic book
About two lovers who meet on a rubbish heap
Love knows no bounds, they dance and leap
The Man though much older than the wench
Falls for her charms ignores the stench
As they canoodle on a disused barrel
He loosens some of her apparel
Enough of that lets talk of Carol
I do not wish to turn to stone
But just do your best with the tone
If it does affect me metaphysically
I'll just change my name to Rocky
Choose a nice simple tune
No need to shoot for the moon
My recordings have been out of key
I learn as I progress, it doesn't get to me
So look on this as an exercise
She who dares wins reach for the skies
God loves a Girl who always tries
I try things and sometimes fail
The guy that never tries anything
Fails just by doing nothing
So go forth fair maiden
You have a song to sing
If your not Joni or Joplin
No one will mind because you're trying
You don't stop laughing when you grow old; you grow old when you stop laughing.

When I read Carol's and Starsailor's lines
I think they're the King and Queen of rhymes.
Their words are so varied and knowledge so vast
I fear that I'll never attain their class.
My little rhymes lack educated finesse
But I hate to say that they're are my best!
I'm hoping a better musician I shall be,
My poetry could improve by great degree.
Go for it Carol, I'm waiting to hear
You sing your song out loud and clear.
I'll bet you're better than you purport to be.
See I'm trying to use big words to impress thee!
I sure hope it means what I meant to say,
I didn't check with Webster today!
I wish that I could go on and on
But alas I think all my thoughts have flown.
So I guess I'll close this little ditty for now
And back out of here with a courtly bow!
Music is a universal language!

Well shucks aw shoot aw gee whiz me
I can use big words how bout... dictionary
large is another and so is giant
my attorney says I'm his biggest client
now fancy words they tickle me pink
words like thoughtlessness makes me think
No wheel of fortune I'm more like Jeopardy
Lots of knowledge but not with spelling bee's
I was raised with words like hip and cool
pronouncing much more I look like a fool
oh I can finagle some dexterous verbiage
but it gets quite soporific so I tend not to engage
egregious wording is not very effulgent
so I do pusillanimously try to circumvent
enough of this as my hair's begun to hurt
besides my real thoughts belong in the dirt

Hi there guys, I'm back on air
The router tried to give us a scare
It tried and failed to shut me up
But it had no chance, my mind was made up-
In fact it was nothing to do with me
We gave it a kick and now it runs free
Well not free of course, but that don't matter
Because now I am able to gabble and chatter.
So bad luck friends, I'm back on line
I'm glad to see you are all doing fine.
Chris you made me laugh out loud
With your lovers who met while under a cloud
Of stench and rubbish and a difference in age
I think you should think of career on the stage.
Aunt Doty I love your little gems
Of rhyme and verse and a few 'ahems' (its the rhyming thing again)
I don't think big words are here required
Your thoughts and verses are quite inspired
But Kenny has dived in up to his nose
In some sort of dictionary and now he throws
Such words in the air, I'm a bit concerned
Perhaps to the asylum he has returned?

Just to prove that I reallly am nuts
Here's what I thought of while feeding the muts:
I love Highland cattle
I think they are really cute
I have been told
It's because its cold
That they wear a long and hairy suit.
Which made me think of Angus
Now there's a cow with breeding!
He's black and smooth and glossy
But I've heard it said, he can be bossy.
And then I remembered Doogle
He's short and long and hairy
(Unlike Hairy McClary from Donaldson's Dairy)
He hangs about
On a roundabout (Doogle)
With his 'poign-y' friend named Zebedee.
Only the under 5's or the over 50's will know what I'm talking about in the last verse ...maybe?

Cattle, hmmm makes me think of steak
throw a slab on the grill and let er bake
Carol don't take this as being rude
I sense like me that your into food
next to guitar comes my love of the grill
the sizzeling, searing sounds do thrill
out on the deck cold beer in hand
this is my domain I make my stand
mushrooms and peppers an onion or two
I grill them all and thats what I do
I swear I like cooking steak outside
but unlike your verses I remove the hide
and about your last verse just let me say
I won't be 50 till next last november day
so I'm saying I don't have a clue
not only with your verse but with most everything I do

I hate Winter it's a bummer
But very soon it will be Summer
So heads up to the talk of Steaks
And Barbecues on Summer breaks

The calender say's we are now in spring
mine must of miss printed something
four inches of snow still on the ground
with no sign of spring to be found
but mind you I do shovel off the deck
grilling I won't let mother nature wreck
the neighborhood kids build their snow-forts
I'm at the grill and freezing in my shorts

It's the same here it's no fun
I can't see that Spring has sprung
The British stiff upper lip still shows
But mostly cos my lips are froze
I've just sat on a wet patch
Could be rain or melted snows
Or maybe I'm just getting old
Have bladder weakness from the cold
I think I'll have to change my pants
And stick to tending indoor plants
It would be good to hibernate
We humans do get in a state
While we run round
And freeze our nuts off
Creatures store them up and snooze
As we slip n' slide on snow and Ice
They snuggle up all warm and nice
Miss out on wind and driving rain
And come out when sun shines again
You don't stop laughing when you grow old; you grow old when you stop laughing.

You poor cold folks
Its hard to know
Quite what to say-
You're still in snow
While down our way its into fall
But the weather's not too bad at all.
Today the sun is shining bright
Although some rain fell in the night
The sky is blue as blue can be
And not a cloud, as far as eye can see.
The temperature is also nice
And not a sign of snow or ice
Today its 24, or thereabouts
And also not a sign of drought.
Sorry if this makes you feel a bit down
As you try with beer, your sorrows to drown
But try if you can to remember this:
Here, sunshine is as free as a kiss
They say sometimes 'its a free country'
So what's to stop you going to sea?
Sell up and travel here to Down Under -
Its true we sometimes do hear thunder
But the weather certainly is the best
You can live your life here in your vest
And shorts as well if that's your passion
We don't even care too much about fashion!

One good thing about music is that when it hits you, you feel no pain - Bob Marley

To pull up stakes and go down under
I can almost hear my wife's loud thunder
To go would please me there's no doubt
a steep price to pay if you've heard her shout
Her beauty's the reason I stay here
well that and because of her I do fear
so I guess that will be the end of that
unless she starts acting like the cat
and if she does I'll give her the boot
and who know's you may hear my toot
as I drive by in a land rover of sorts
cruising aussie land visiting the ports
just sell the house and cash-in my shares
and head off to the land of cool drop bears
now you've gotten me to start countin
about a trip to see Tamborine mountain
and some of the friends I've made from there
thanks for the thoughts please don't post a dare
besides kicking the cat is really not fair
and I'd look funny missing clumps of hair

I see the subject is weather and steaks
In Louisiana it was sunny and great.
The skies were blue with a gentle breeze
Weather just right for hunting eggs to please
The cute little kids in their Easter best.
The azaleas in full bloom to attest
That Spring has arrived in our town
It won't be long we'll try to cool down,
When the thermometer gets to ninety degrees
It's hot here and humid and we wish for a freeze!
I worked on my grill with new grate and burner
It still won't work , now ain't that a bummer.
My hubby thinks it's the butane bottle
It's valve getting stuck and choking the throttle
So there's no gas to light my fire.........
Hmmm the situation sounds dire.
Don't be too jealous of our great weather
Before long it'll be a real sweater (sorry perspiration won't work)
We'll have to wear extra deodorant and gunk
to keep from smelling like a skunk
But it's great for swimming and having fun
Crawfish boils, potatoes and corn....yum!
Sorry to say I'm all out of rhyme,
I'm closing .........don't you think it's time?
Music is a universal language!

Hmm, "no gas, to light my fire......"
That does indeed sound rather dire
But maybe there, is the start of a song
Just an idea, it doesn't have to be long.
I'm glad Aunt Doty that you have sun
I was feeling sad about everyone
Sitting around in the cold and the wet
It's nice to know there's some hope yet
For those of you across the waves
Who struggle on through colder days.
Kenny says he's hooked on meat
I do eat meat, but for a treat
I like some vegies and some fruit
But draw the line at eating newt.
Its true dear Kenny, I do like food
And so do all our rowdy brood
They eat like horses, I think its a sign -
I'm much more dainty, half the time
(I don't care that its all rhyming couplets, I'm on holiday )
