Our University song

The poem before the song...

Staring at the flickering screen
my eyes begin to numb
I go and grab some more caffeine
what have I now done
an office chair at home so plush
tucked in a corner space
just sitting here when came a rush
brought a smile right to my face
its 1 AM this days been long
its time I go to bed
I'll close this out with a new song
that just popped in my head

Carol your replies are oh so great
you must write them when it's very late
your words they do make me feel good
but much much more than they should
Your words they do inspire me on
but have you know I'm no Don Juan
I'm just a beginner reaching for beyond
may help knowing I was once a blonde
Alas those hairs have turned quite grey
still sometimes don't know what to say
I appreciate all the words you choose
even if it seems they come from booze
with a friend like you I can-not lose!

Chris your post has me crosseyed
thought my vision had surely died
seemed at first quite a mess
Had much trouble I do confess
just a note to let you know
your artistic side has a wild flow

I wrote it but it was hard to read
It did tend to make my eyes bleed
It makes you dizzy found it hysterical
The next step is try something spherical

Round and round with words you go
How you do it I do not know
I'll try to keep up but I'm kinda slow
looking forward to the show

I've learned to read from left to right,
So reading vertical tested my sight,
My brain was taxed to read words,
With no separation to help this nerd
Diiscern where each space should be
So the line would make some sense to me.
Starsailor's prose was quite the feat
and I must say........ somewhat unique!!!!!

I think I’ve had a break through
I think I’ve found the key
To writing lyrics all day long
While looking cool (like me).

When it comes to writing lyrics
Cowboy hats are quite essential
They help you guard against hysterics
And lean towards things existential.

Mine is black, and therefore cool-ish
It also matches my guitar
Some may say that I look foolish-
(It hasn’t helped my songs thus far).

But oh the joy, and oh the pleasure
Writing down my thoughts in rhyme
Kenny taught us, now I treasure
All these moments caught in time.

(I'm still working on my twang thang)

We can greet a new enrolment!
Jess has found our happy band!
Glad to see you’ve found involvement
In our University Land

First of all I bid you welcome
More the merrier is our creed
Maybe now we do have someone
Can teach us how to shred with speed.

Heavy metal is her preference
She can shred till early morn
Sometimes tho she plays with deference
Noodling away until the dawn.

I’ve heard it said that she’s a poet
Likes to write things down in rhyme
Maybe she would love to show it
No pressure though, just take your time.

How’m I doing here dearest Jessica?
Have I caught the essential you?
I’ve heard you’re also a heck-uv-a
Pianist- likes to play a tune or two?

Hey Kenny what do you think of this
We could crown this metal miss
As our mascot for the season -
Tell me if I've lost my reason.

Cowboy hats are fine with me
I'm all in favour as you see
I think cowboy hats are great
Especially worn, upon the pate.
