Our University song

The poem before the song...

Staring at the flickering screen
my eyes begin to numb
I go and grab some more caffeine
what have I now done
an office chair at home so plush
tucked in a corner space
just sitting here when came a rush
brought a smile right to my face
its 1 AM this days been long
its time I go to bed
I'll close this out with a new song
that just popped in my head

I fear I've been lax and gone for some time.
It's time I returned and wrote a few lines.
The song you've penned and recorded so well
Seems to be coming along really swell!

LC has dropped in and says he's amazed,
Methinks he really thinks we're just crazed,
being a nice guy, he has good things to say
Hoping we'll write a really neat song someday!

And I see the Captain has discovered our fun
Hope he won't delete our efforts and puns
Surely he'll see that our verse is fantastic
And won't just discount us as spastics!!!

Carol, you amaze me with all that you do,
And now you're playing a blues harp too?
I swear I think I've picked up your scheme
Couplets I see have become quite the thing!

I forgive Knight46 for leaving me out
I'm sure it's because lately I wasn't about.
I took a vacation to rest my poor brain
since all of this thinking was giving me pain!

I couldn't believe the many lines you all wrote
And songs and music and poetic strokes
They are good reading and I can't help but smile
To see how they meander mile after mile!

And now I'll try to end on a sensible note
After I review all the lines that I've wrote
Sometimes English suffers for the sake of a rhyme
And I'm out of words so I'll close.....it's time!!!!

Ah-ha you have caught the curse of the couplet!
I did try to warn you, once infected, you're stuck with it
I tried to prevent it as a matter of pride
I'm sure that I mentioned it - I even cried
They flow from my brain till it makes my head spin
So I try if its possible to make you all grin
But for chatting and banter
You can go at a canter
No need for deep thought
Or things of that sort
Just wing it and bring it
From some deep dark pit -
Its easy to go at one hell of a lick
I don't care any more if it makes you all sick

It occurs to me now like it did once before
It might be contagious or against the law
But I think I've been channeled by a couple of blokes
Two English gents that were clever with jokes
They conducted themselves with wit and elan
P'raps that's where my troubles, really began -
Oops!
I forgot in mid-flight to mention their names
The Two Ronnies - (I believe one has gone up in flames)

Hey Carol what a great take
very good harping there
The icing on the cake
I think it right
And it would be rewarding
For this song to be set free
On members recordings

My little speech
Yes Like the Oscars
I read it again
And now I know
I didn't mention
My Mum
That was a bit low
I probably could be
The next
Gwyneth Paltrow

Welcome back
Aunt Doty
Great return
It's pure poetry

The two Ronnies
Always had a handle
On comedic sketches
My favourite scene
The one with four Candles

The next Gwyneth Paltrow?
I think there's a hitch
You would have to first show
You could throw a good pitch
But above all, you must grow
A great deal more hair
(it would have to be fair)
If you wanted your aura to glow.

Hello there Aunt Dot
I appreciate a lot
Your kind words of praise
(Can I have a pay raise?)
It was really a fluke
Oh Oh, no I won't spruik....
The obvious rhyme (with fluke)
Or I'll have to do time
In a house of detension
Which is not my intention
(Nor, in a household of dodgy repute)

A bird on my shoulder
Made a comment, not long,
That my playing got bolder
The further along, I had gone.
It just shows how experience
Can give the appearance
Of some skill, but of course they'd be wrong.

I thought that the song
Was an extra bar long
So my last note's not synched
And I'm sure you all blinked
When my last blow came after the end!
Maybe Kenny can fix it
If not, we can skip it
It's a most unfortunate blend.

They say to play harp
Can be quite an art
And you have to be able to bend
If you want to play blue notes
Or win any votes
But quite frankly, my dearest of friends,
I've only tried twice, before in my life
To give it a blow, so it might cause you strife

I hope not, but maybe a laugh?
But the main thing is please
Do not take your best scarf
And give my poor throat the big squeeze.

Think I'll start my day, with an ice cold beer
in my own special way, I have conquered fear
thanks to you all OK, you truely all are dear

I have the long hair, yes it is fair
But greyer than it used to be
I can't be an Actor, I don't like Max Factor
Myself in make up I don't see
Can't be like her, it would be too weird
I think she should be more like me
She'd look really strange, a sight to behold
Gwyneth Paltrow sporting a beard

Kenny your presence it's always felt
You're held in the highest esteem
The lyrics and tunes you let us peruse
Are a pleasure whenever we see them
So here's raising a glass, to a guy with real class
And to this site, the internets creme de la creme

Creme de la creme rhymes with fourteen
Especially if your south in the mouth.
The number of our pages are outrageous
And they continue to flow and grow!

Starsailor I think ....has come up with a new kink
His rhyme this time occurs in the same line
I confess I'm trying to best, now three's the test!
Four would for shore be a real chore.......do you think?!

An internal rhyme will always chime
Especially when done with finesse
Rhyme to the wise and you'll open some eyes

Yay, the master's among us my dearest of friends!
I do hope that this, will become a new trend
But, poor Les is engaged with that gobbler of time
That ruthless, that ghastly, that dreaded Dead-Line.
We mustn't distract him from his worthy endeavor
As he strives for those songs, that bring us such pleasure.

But Les, can you explain?
Please be a good mate
What is the meaning
Of that double 88
That appeared out of nowhere
Right out of the gate?
Perhaps its the number of hits you have sung?
Or maybe the number of oscars you've won?

Kenny the Conquerer, how does that sound?
He's thrown off his hangups, he's oscar bound
He now sings with abandon, and a great deal of guts
As he sings to the world "You can all eat my Dust!"

Aunt Dot, you sure have a cute turn of phrase!
'South in the mouth' is a thought to amaze
It reminds me somewhat of the 'Mouth from the South'
Hmmm, I've got a bit stuck...What on earth rhymes with 'South?'
I've already used mouth......and so has Aunt Dot
I had better rephrase it and start a new plot....
Dot and plot - Hmmm, I use that a lot(!)...........
OK I'll admit it, that's all that I've got.

Stop the press, Stop the press, the words yelled out at me
I shut it down, I looked around, whats going on I couldn't see
look over there, next to the chair, said the guy running down the line
hey there cuz, whats the buzz, a celebration he said but theres no wine
I was amazed, at how they gazed, at the screen of the old PC
phones were ringing, people singing, the place was such a mess
at least twenty deep, taking a peep, at the words written out by Les
I laughed out loud, at the crowd, awestruck by words of a Mod
but I could not hide, feelings deep inside, that indeed he is a God
Sure as my names Ken, when Les grabs a pen, good things are to come
I hope this time, at a humorous rhyme, doesn't make me sound too dumb

Well said KC
I feel your joy
Now you rhyme with the great LC
So now, what's your next ploy?

KC you ask? Surely I jest?
Its for Ken the Conquerer
Please don't cry on your vest.

Kenny the Conquerer, how does that sound?
kinda weird not like a man about town

He's thrown off his hangups, he's oscar bound
did you take some of those pills you found

He now sings with abandon, and a great deal of guts
the more I read this, the more I think your nuts

As he sings to the world "You can all eat my Dust!"
as he sits in a straightjacket licking the bars rust

I feel I must set at least one matter straight
Ken the Conquerer is a title so great
But you shouldn't confuse it
With KFC which is b$#@&t
And one that I'd never call 'mate'.

**Limerick violation Grade 3 Possibly bad taste too?
