Our University song

The poem before the song...

Staring at the flickering screen
my eyes begin to numb
I go and grab some more caffeine
what have I now done
an office chair at home so plush
tucked in a corner space
just sitting here when came a rush
brought a smile right to my face
its 1 AM this days been long
its time I go to bed
I'll close this out with a new song
that just popped in my head

Ah-Ha I fear the jig is up
Our conspiracy uncovered
The Captain has found our little Band
Our rhymes have been discovered.
The workings of this noble troupe
Both rhyme and Acawacapella
Are now revealed for all to see
Like the slipper to Cinderella.
Will this be the end of us
Carol, Starsailor and X4StringDrive
Nay I say as long as breath is left
This noble Band will survive.

Don't know if my synchs. quite right
Might have failed to keep it tight
But here's something I'll try to sell ya
Harmonicacawacapella
If you don't like it have no fears
Starsailor won't break down in tears
So cheers to all we're on page twelve
And wishing all of you good health

Please tell me you can hear it, I'm so hit and miss
I will just be happy if it doesn't have that hiss

The Heavens have opened
And two Stars have appeared
One is a Sailor, one a StringDriver
And both have conquered their Fears.
The lyrics were offered by Carol
A bright Star in her own right
Acawacapella by one and harp by another
The firmament glows brightly tonight.

My my Chris, the things you hide from us
hidding another talent in the back of the bus
that harp sounds great you gave it such a kiss
and to top it off there was no sign of any hiss

Very cool rendition that I will admit
I'm surprised my vox didn't make you quit
and so you define the genre... thank you
as of now we all know its the blues

I feel as though the vox need redoing
but then thats not really news
as I'm sure you already know
as to singing I have no clues

I fear you've over estimated
My harmonica skills
I do play a bit, have a harp of my own
But this is part of a bt so it wasn't done alone
I thought it would suit this song, so I just did a mix
I'm glad the post was devoid of that dreadful hiss
But to take full credit here would just be remiss

Do you want some more ideas for the final song
As far as vocals go there isn't that much wrong
The voice it suits the blues so you have nothing to fear
This will be a great song so raise your hands and cheer

You don't stop laughing when you grow old; you grow old when you stop laughing.

I've had a go my friend
Written some words
Hope they follow the trend
I kind of put this
Through the ringer
And Propose an idea
For a second singer
If you like what I have done
Pray tell, forsooth
It has been fun
Do not worry if you like it not
I have a gun with one last shot
(only joking by the way)
Still think it needs a bit of work
Please peruse
I'll just lurk

Please lie to me Baby

Please lie to me baby
say that you still care
tell me that you love me
that we're still a pair

Don't leave me here alone now
standing by myself
I can not stand the thought of
our love stored on a shelf

Chorus/break (second vocalist)

Just lie to him
It does no harm
Just lie to him
Use your charm

Won't you stop and listen
theres one thing you should know
need you to lie to me baby
as I watch you go

Tell me you're not leaving
Need to protect my pride
Say that you're not going
To see that other guy

Chorus/break (second vocalist)

Just lie to him
It does no harm
Just lie to him
Use your charm

Stay with me baby
Fit in with my plan
I'll pretend that I don't know
You're with another man

There's no need to go
We can share the home
Anything is better
Than being left alone

Chorus (second vocalist)

Just lie to him
It does no harm
Just lie to him
Use your charm

Chorus and end (first vocalist)

Just lie to me
Use your charm
Just lie to me
It does no harm

You don't stop laughing when you grow old; you grow old when you stop laughing.

Chris, I made some changes as I thought it seemed a bit "weak willie wuvs his woman whoa what a wuss" {lol} I just can't relate to shareing her , all or nothings my motto. {no offense intended} The chorus is just how I hear it, yours may be better in actuality with the tune.

Please lie to me Baby

Please lie to me baby
say that you still care
tell me that you love me
that we're still a pair

Don't leave me here alone now
standing by myself
I can not stand the thought of
our love stored on a shelf

Chorus/break (second vocalist)
Just lie to him
It does no one no harm
Just lie to him
Use your phoney charm
Just lie to him
that love ain't bought the farm

Won't you stop and listen
theres one thing you should know
need you to lie to me baby
I don't want to let you go

Tell me you're not leaving
lie to protect my pride
Say that you're not going
To see some other guy

Chorus/break (second vocalist)
Just lie to him
It does no one no harm
Just lie to him
Use your phoney charm
Just lie to him
that love ain't bought the farm

Stay with me baby
Fit in with my plan
just lie to me baby
say that I'm your man

Don't say you need to go
I can't stand the pain
Anything is better
Than left out in the rain

Chorus (second vocalist)
Just lie to him
It does no one no harm
Just lie to him
Use your phoney charm
Just lie to him
that love ain't bought the farm

Chorus and end (both vocalist with one using "me" instead of "him"... a bit behind)
Just lie to him
It does no one no harm
Just lie to him
Use your phoney charm
Just lie to him
that love ain't bought the farm

I agree with with your sentiments Kenny, I wouldn't do what the guy in my version does, no man takes my Woman, as it's the Blues it needs to be gritty, that's a great rewrite the song looks really good, the chorus still works beefed up, I had the thought it would be a bit softer than the main vocal kind of his friends or relatives giving his partner a bit of advice sort of thing

I got you Chris, I thought maybe you were referring to a womans voice doing the chorus.

Alas dear Knight
It was not me
That penned those words above
The credit goes to our dear Kenny
His song of un-requited love.

I also fear that in your rush
Of poetic joy and brotherly love
You forgot to mention dear Aunt Dot
Whose words are lush (and sometimes hot).
They lift our spirits to join the Dove
Of Peace and harmony of our Lot
(And help us focus if we lose the plot).

I must say Chris, you do impress
Your harping really is the best.
Perhaps you'll tell us how to learn
To play like that I've always yearned.

(Note to self: Rhyming couplet warning!)

I always wanted to ask LC
But somehow never did
Always something else to learn-
I still can't make a vid.

Kenny, that song is really great
I think it has potential
I think that for the chorus part
A different tune is quite essential
(I don't really think its essential but the rhymes prevail over almost everything)

A different melody line would lift
And give the song more interest
The way a gear change can uplift
The drivers on the midnight shift.

(Note to self: second rhyming couplet violation!)

It's nice to see that Kirk's on board
Though p'rhaps you did not notice
He's not been back, perhaps he scored
That extra beer- or more.....
Likely, found a better motive!

There's one thing that I find quite strange
It seems that all the others here
See on their screens a lesser range
Of posts per page.!?....but never fear
The remedy's quite simple
Just go to User CP options where,
'Posts per page' is easily changed.

I have at all times spread before me
Forty posts per page!
I must say, it helps me keep perspective-
(Important in one of my old age).

I think all you of limited view
Should really make the change
It gives me such a sense of freedom
From the rigours of the smaller page.

It's also in your own best interest
At the very least, to try to keep up!
I think that if you make the effort
You'll want to raise the toasting cup.

My goodness Carol, quite the post
you certainly convey better than most
an update to the credit given Kenny
our good man Chris has co-written plenty

Knight my man has not forgotton Ms Dot
I believe that he has a sinister plot
one to fire up her soul so deep
so more of her rhymes to this thread will seep

And Chris he does quite impress
but you missed what he did stress
the harmonica was not him
something he found used on a whim

Don't be afraid to ask Mr Jones
he has skill built in his bones
I'm sure that you can do video
just open the app and give it a go

Thanks for the comments on our song
I hope it doesn't seem too long
Yes I need help when it comes to chorus
can't see the trees because of the forest

Yes I've seen Kirk hasn't been back
but don't believe its cause he's slack
This much reading could cause him pain
add to that that we're quite insane

Thanks for the tip about sizing the page
you've so much to offer when you take the stage
so to you I will raise up the cup
hey its empty...can you fill it up

Old Age seems to have me down
My memory is sometimes clouded
The length of this thread may contribute
To the lack of....What was I saying?

Thanks Kenny for pointing out
It wasn't me just a BT
Please guys do not credit me
I'm not that gifted
Harmonically
I like the song
The lyrics impress
It could be a female vocal
Carol might give it a try
If put under duress
Carol that was quite the rhyme
It must have taken you some time
Your thoughts on the song are cool
A change of tempo well worth a mention
Certainly worth some attention
Hey Knight what's that word old
Carol said it too
We're all getting older
This it maybe true
But don't forget you're younger
Than people that are older than you

Hey Chris, that last line
Kinda threw me
Up till then I was doing fine
I must be old as well as newby.

Had to read it twice, oh dear
First time round, it was confusing.......!

Wait.....

Hey I've had a thought, (don't hold your breath)
By making lines of longer length
You cut the rhyming task in half - what genius, (what nerve), what breadth!
For one of such a limited range with excess growth (and advancing years)
But, don't forget that ancient adage - please do lend your ears
Holding breath for too long can, cause your most untimely death.
