Started Guitar Study in March 2007

Here is my experience so far.

1. Private Music Lessons – Too much money. Each lesson I was giving something new but could never learn it because there was no development time between the lessons. (Nice income for the instructor but no learning for me). I stopped my private lessons.

2. Self Study Method – I have a very successful history with the self study method. I achieved my AS, BS, and MA degrees via independent studies. I completed the Hal Leonard Guitar Method 1, 2, and 3. I discovered Sam Ash Institute and decided to give it a try. I found the 8 level methods to be the bomb. My major problem was how and what to practice. All my problems were resolved. I now practicing music theory, Major scales, rhythm guitar, jamming using scale and chord shapes. I also have access to chat with an instructor if I have questions.

3. Conclusion – Independent study is the way for me. I am not against private instruction. I will take private instruction after I have a good guitar foundation in theory, scales, chords, and jamming.
