After doing my new lesson
'Tiptoe through the Blues', which uses the chord progression from 'The Birth of the Blues', I went to YouTube to see what I could find. This gem was there waiting for us: Sammy Davis Junior at a Royal Command performance in 1960 ... he sings the tune at the end all the while doing impersonations of other singers. Whether you like this kind of thing or not, or know the tune or the other singers, this is worth watching just to see a master performer at work. Also, anyone wondering what 'phrasing' means, have a listen to the way this little genius bends the lyrics around the beat during 'The Lady is a Tramp'. He truly was amazing. These days, of course, we have Britney.
