Was just learning 3am and one guitar does the minimalist version of the G and C majors, and the chorus does the G-D-C progression like the last chords here:

Also in the song you mentioned it starts out with minimal chords, and then does it again later with full chords accompanied with a 12 string for increased dynamic.
