Requiem For A Summer Rain - instrumental

Well, I was horsing around and took out the old Ibanez and tuned it for a little Nashville Tuning. For those that are not familiar with Nashville Tuning, it's a trick used for acoustic guitar. Take the octave strings from a set of 12 strings and string up your six string. It's a trick used to make your 6 sting sound like a 12 strings. If you have an extra acoustic doing nothing, get a $3.00 set of Light Gauge 6 & 12's strings. Use the normal high E & B string from the 6 pack and put them in their normal position. Then take the unwound strings from the 12 pack and finish up. The low E will be using a wound string from the 12 pack. Here's the sizes you need, High E to Lo E:

E 10
B 14
G 9 (or 10)
D 12
A 18
E 27 (or 30)(wound)

In this Requiem For A Summer Rain, the Nashville Tuned guitar is dead center. (I didn;t really mess with the mix, so you'll probably hear a thump or two.

Requiem For A Summer Rain [3.8Mb @ 3:59]

Enjoy. And be sure to try out that setup on an extra ax.

Re..... Tension? ... Nothing a beer won't relieve and/or cure!

Actually, no. I didn't adjust anything. I'm sure a bit of intonation work could be done as the Ibanez bridge houses a sliding plastic bridge. None the less, even though the strings are of a lighter gauge they are stretched an octave higher than a normal set. This is some compensation. From that point, I am a dunce. But a beer drankin' dunce!

Skip, Mattb,

Thank you!

Slinky...... no, not slinky at all. Just un-wound. Except for the Lo E.
The octave tension removes the perceived slinky-ness.

LC
Now you're talking Everytime I mix writing and drinking I have to make sure I write down what tuning I use. I have a song from 10 years ago that I still can't figure out how I played it!

Cheers

Now that was a really good piece. Thanks for sharing that. Love that tuning and melody.

Great stuff LC. I came across this yesterday and it inspired me...not up to your expertise unfortunately...but inspired me to spend a good few hours playing my sadly neglected guitar. Thanks for this wonderful piece of music.

Thanks again folks. I really appreciate it.

Chris, cshude, asked about a mini lesson. I put one together and it's posted in the Misc Lesson section. I hope I explained things. If not, holler at me.

LC I cannot thank you enough for posting the mini lesson on this lovely piece! I was secretly hoping you would but was afraid it would be too much work for you to tab out. The melody really is not complex, but the outcome is just magical. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us - I just can't wait to get started on this one!

Beautifully done Les! I might give Nashville tuning a go myself.

I have to tell you LC that I have had a hard day at work, it is now 7.30 in the evening here in England, I have a glass of wine in my hand and I really, really enjoyed that.

Thanks
