Requiem For A Summer Rain - instrumental
Well, I was horsing around and took out the old Ibanez and tuned it for a little Nashville Tuning. For those that are not familiar with Nashville Tuning, it's a trick used for acoustic guitar. Take the octave strings from a set of 12 strings and string up your six string. It's a trick used to make your 6 sting sound like a 12 strings. If you have an extra acoustic doing nothing, get a $3.00 set of Light Gauge 6 & 12's strings. Use the normal high E & B string from the 6 pack and put them in their normal position. Then take the unwound strings from the 12 pack and finish up. The low E will be using a wound string from the 12 pack. Here's the sizes you need, High E to Lo E:
E 10
B 14
G 9 (or 10)
D 12
A 18
E 27 (or 30)(wound)
In this Requiem For A Summer Rain, the Nashville Tuned guitar is dead center. (I didn;t really mess with the mix, so you'll probably hear a thump or two.
Requiem For A Summer Rain [3.8Mb @ 3:59]
Enjoy. And be sure to try out that setup on an extra ax.

I too have tried frailing but it sounded more like flailing if you know what I mean. I'd like to get back to it and give it another chance, just to have a little variety of style when I spend time on the guitar.

Great sound LC, I agree with pamelody that it has a dulcimer like quality to it. Just lovely!

Hey LC, this is wonderful stuff.
I'm pretty much a newbie and didn't really know anything about Nashville tuning but with your sweet picking and Jedi-like recording techniques a super-mellow sound results. Beautiful.

Beautiful. I can't tell you how much I would luuurve to be able to play like that, even if it took a whole year for one single 'take' - and you " just sorta started picking and that's where it went. It wasn't planned"! Unbelievable. I'm so jealous (in a nice way ).
I guess I'll just keep plugging away and dreaming. Well done

Well done Les... those fingers are moving nicely on this one. I can't get mine to cooperate and work together in concert. Seems once they get going I have a mutiny on my hands!

Excellent job all around- lovely progression, great choice on using the Nashville tuning, and thanks for the little recording tip. Well done.
Any chance of putting together a mini-lesson on this one?

I knew it - CanuckTodd has my fingers.
Maybe you'll give 'em back once you've broken them in
Once again - congratulations LC

LC-
Very nice... Great Tip on the Nashville Tuning! Hard to play strings that slinky! Did you have to readjust the neck on that guitar? I would imagine that the change in tension to the much lighter strings would cause that neck to pull back some. I'll have to try it though!

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
