Reaper does have a lot of "advanced" features, but that doesn't mean you have to use them right away (or at all). The main project window in Sequel actually looks a lot like Reaper.
At the basic "record and play" level, most recording programs are very similar and it's only a matter of learning how each program does things.
I'm working on a tutorial for basic recording that'll have a general step-by-step procedure (starting from scratch) on how to get started recording. Then this procedure will be demonstrated (with pictures) in a few different recording programs: Kristal Audio, Reaper, and Samplitude (my recording program) to show how similar they are. Unfortunately school has been hammering me so I haven't been able to work on it much recently....

But hopefully soon, I'll be able to get it finished.
