Kirk's Weekly Lesson
What with compiling all the lessons onto CD, I've been a little slow with the Weekly Lessons. But, there is one new one there now: The Blue Danube ... the definitive Waltz. This one is good for getting your hand used to moving from position to position and, being 150 years or so old, it's well and truly public domain.

PlaneTalk - The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book
Sometimes it's easier for me to just let a customer do the talking. Here's a message I received this morning from Vivek who lives in Mumbai, India:
"Hi Kirk Got the book & DVD couple days back.... you've put into 2 hours of lessons what i couldn't figure out in nearly 20 years. Your approach simply blew me away. It's brought the fun back into playing. Thanks for putting it together. You rule!
Regards, Vivek"
Thanks, Vivek. I see you're perusing the private PlaneTalkers' Forum as I write. You're going to find an absolute wealth of info there too, like 10,298 posts worth.
So, if it's getting to know the fretboard like the back of your hand, and understanding how music works in real time, PlaneTalk will deliver, without once using Greek. Read all about it here. >

Slide Guitar in Standard and Dropped D Tunings
As I'm sure you know by now, my favorite way of playing is with a slide on my pinkie, and leaving the guitar in good old familiar standard tuning, or, even better, dropping that one bass string down to D. As it turns out, standard is just as rich an environment for finding those "line-em-ups" as I call them -- places where notes line up on different strings for the slide to grab them -- as open tunings. Every flavor of chord is there in some form, and of course you don't need to remap your fretboard or have a special guitar when you want to get that great slide sound. The DVD I put together shows how I do it, which is to combine normal playing with slide. Read more here
Slide Guitar Web Ring - Bottleneck Guitar and have a listen to the mp3s in the player you'll see there. They're all examples of dropped D or standard tuning.
