Ask everything here, Kush; That's what the forum is for. I can't respond to PMs asking music questions, I'm afraid.

Regd Practicing New Arrangements
Dear All
This is kush again. I just wanted to ask you guys for a help :
How should i approach a new arrangement??? For example, i'm currently learning your unchained melody lesson and i'm almost half way thru. How should i approach my practice, should i do it very slowly till i get everything right??? and should i move learning 1 step at a time?? i some times get very impatient and start practicing at speed and make all sorts of mistakes and buzzes.
and regd technique i have a doubt too, when practicing an arrangement, when there comes a situation where the thumb and the other 3 fingers all have to pluck at strings : what is the best approach to these kind of situations??? should my 3 fingers be stuck with each other tightly or the can be separated induvidually????
Kindly suggest.
Thanks in advance !!!!

In my opinion it is best to play a new tune no faster than you can play it correctly. Once you have done that then speed up a couple of steps at a time till you start making errors then slow it down a notch and stay there for a while. Move up again and repeat till you are playing faster than you would normaly play the tune. That way playing the tune at normal speed should be smooth and comfortable.
Keep your fingers relaxed no matter what you are playing with them You want to eliminate as much tension in your hands and body as possible. Play tense for a couple of hours and you will be sore and can possibly damage your muscles and joints.

That is a great point everyone. Consider that Kirk is invoved with 3 forums, making lessons for 2 of them and answering posts as well as working on his slide DVD. You can see his time is pretty full.
It makes sense to ask all questions on the forum so that we all can bennefit from the answers and we can also get feedback from our fellow members broad range of experience.

I think I got the tab at Ultimate-Guitar. I dont play it finger style, I chord it and sing the melody.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
