The Fear Within Revisited

This is a song I put on a few months ago, thought I'd put it on again, had a tune for it but could do with a bit more inspiration, Hilch posted a tune that might fit into the chorus in the thread "Something," if anyone wants to have a go at this feel free, it's about stage fright which I have a problem with and others may have too

THE FEAR WITHIN

V1

It’s really quite a feeling
When I play guitar
But my nerves are gonna stop me
Being a Star
When I take to the stage
All I can see
Is a crowd of people that won’t like me

I don’t know what to do
How can I get through

chorus

I’m like a rabbit in the headlights
Am I going insane
I’m trying to sing
Through the fear and pain
Stage frights hardly an original sin
But I just can’t cope with the fear within
No I just can’t cope with the fear within

V2

The crowd are waiting to decide my fate
But I just stand there in a frozen state
As I stare out at the audience
My sense of fear makes no sense
I know I can sing and I know I can play
But the sense of fear won’t go away

Need to look for clues
I can’t sing the blues

Chorus

If I’m a rabbit in the headlights
And I’m going insane
Trying to sing through the fear and pain
Stage frights hardly an original sin
But how can I cope with the fear within
I just can’t cope with the fear within

V3

Well I need to sing before it gets too late
Need to conquer the shakes
And the fast pulse rate
Stage fright seems to be
A funny mindset
My brains trying to stop me
Getting where I wanna get

Now I can start to see
That I don’t want to be

Chorus

A rabbit in the headlights
Going insane
Trying to sing through the fear and pain
Stage frights got my mind in a spin
But I can fight the fear within
Yeah I can fight the fear within

V4

If I relax my thoughts I’ll be fine soon
I can feel the music and I know I’m in tune
If I play from the heart dry the sweat and the tears
I know I’m good to forget those fears
And as I look at the crowd and I sing my song
It’s a great relief when they sing along

Now I’m feeling strong
I can do no wrong

Chorus to end

And I’m no rabbit in the Headlights
I’ve no fear and pain
I can play my songs again and again
Fears just part of the human race
A game our mind plays that we have to face
If we believe in ourselves and we want to win
Then we can say goodbye to the fear within
Yeah we can say goodbye to the fear within

Play out

Nicely redone Starsailor, much better IMO from the beginning right on through. I'd give it a go, but I'm like a rabbit.........

Thanks X4String, I wasn't very happy with the original song so thought I'd have another go , needed sharpening up a bit, I built on the input from yourself and Aunt Doty and just scrapped the first verse altogether, Tsidewinder is having a go and I think Lugnut was going to have a go too so we'll see what happens, I have sorted out lame so I'm running out of excuses for not recording, have you got a tune for Where Humanity Grows yet it's a really good song, I've been singing it all week

Waiting to hear some of your stuff Starsailor
No tune in mind at the present...meaning with my present skills there won't be anything soon

Did anyone sing this in the end?

I took one step toward conquering my fear this week. The little music club I go to encouraged me to take my guitar along and just play along with other musicians, so I gave it a try and after an initial bout of the terrors I actually ended up enjoying myself! I'll keep it up now and maybe I'll finally take that giant leap!

When all else fails, read the instructions.

I think you've probably taken that giant leap by starting to play along with other musicians in a live situation Jomi, I can't begin to tell you how pleased I am for you, must have been quite nerve wracking for you John big thumbs up for doing it Ps. No one ever did sing this, I left it alone after Tsidewinder said he wanted to try something and I didn't get back to it, if you want to do something with the song Jomi you're more than welcome, I always thought it was quite a good song and I think it was the first one I wrote on here, I've written better since I think but I like the lyrics in this one.

Best Wishes

Chris
