The DVD is in NTSC format, which is compatible with US players, so I'm not sure what the problem is with it. As for the opening section, I do realize that there are more sophisticated menu systems today, but when that one was put together there weren't, at least not on the program I used. I think once you do press the menu button on the player/remote, you get to see the various chapters.
Through a severe lack of funds back then when I put the DVD together (1999), I did it all myself: filming, recording, editing -- everything except the pressing -- so if it looks a little homemade, it's because it was. I figured it was the lesson that was important though, not so much the presentation.
