In spite of ourselves - John Prine marathon

Ok folks,
I though I would try this, but will probably need a re take.
This mixing stuff is a challenge.
A John Prine tune with Iris DeMent.
Elle does the female part and I do the male part and guitar.

Matt,
I left the city in 1957, been in the country ever since. Guess I got to produce the pix.

Thanks fly, played it cause I love JP stuff, but you know what Elle had all the best verses.

Fantastic, Eddie and Elle, what a nice natural sound you both have together and that's some beautiful pickin' there Edward. Elle, did you play any guitar on this? I'm super impressed.

Now I need to listen again.

Thanks a bunch folks.
I hope everybody got a chukkle out this one.

Kirk,
I did a rhythm track just kind of um pa, um pa.
Then I did a pickin track. But I like to play this tune a bit faster.
Planning a retake.

Eddie, you've blown me away...again! What do you mean, more gravelly? Is that possible? You have a voice and singing style to die for cowboy (and don't say you don't have a 'big hat' somewhere in the closet and maybe a horse tied up out the back as well?) And fabulous guitar picking too.

And Elle was great too - I had forgotten how much I liked Iris DeMent - will have to go back and listen to some of her stuff again.

Great stuff, you guys - you've really made my day

Neil, thank you.

carol m
Why thank you Carol.
Yes I do have a cowboy hat, and had five horses. My fororite is the Appoloosa. I'm stuck here in the north but would rather be down
south. And Elle had the perfect voice for this tune. We will do a re-take soon.

Congrats on ROTW, very well done to you both. I agree that Elle's part needs to be slightly more forward in the mix. I think the timing seems to be slightly off in a couple of places too.
