Why did they tell you to do this? If you have fret buzz, where? It sounds like they were telling you to raise the stop bar. Not sure how that would help with string buzz.
Seems to me, more and more stores don't have anybody really qualified to work on guitars. They guess at what a problem might be and then give mediocre if not bad info.
