Finally it's here! New Members Showcase part of the forum

Well it's been a long time coming but I think we're ready to roll with it.

The new part to the forum is called "The Members Showcase"

What it does and it's features.

Members submit mp3s of their finished songs (originals and compositions available in the public domain only at this stage) to the category of their choice. Works much the same as submitting a recording to a normal thread in the "Recording Booth" forum here. It needs a title and a short description.

When the the song is submitted by a member the song is also linked from the members profile page under a new heading "My Recordings"

What features does the "Member's Showcase" section of the forum have over the normal forum?

You can add recordings to your own favorites section and come back at any stage and listen to those recordings any time without having to search through endless threads to find things.

Members can leave comments.

There is a built in Flash play button - you don't need to open a player to play the file... just click the orange play button... you can also pause and rewind with the same built in button.

Recordings are categorized by genres.

Each play is logged and the top played songs rise to the top of the "What's Hot List" our own GFB&B chart. These in future will also be shown on the forum home page.

We will be picking Featured Recordings from all genres and these will show at the top of the song list pages in a randomly selected way. For example if you are in the Blues section, you will see the "Featured Recordings" from that genre... you will also see "What's Hot from that genre... this will change depending on which category you are in.

Each genres song page can be sorted in numerous ways... for example by number of plays, by title of song or by members names.

You can also at any stage click on a members name and see all the recordings that have been submitted by that particular member.

What else? can't think of anything right now. I think it is working ok, but if there are any bugs, let me know.

Also, I have made fairly obvious categories... if there are any you would like added, let me know... I just want to add main categories at this stage, but any ideas let me know.

So anyone with original finished songs, please submit them... it doesn't matter if you have submitted them to the "Recording Booth" previously... as we all know, things get lost in there. We want to encourage members to submit to the new section. This will be a permanent way to have your music heard. The normal "Recording Booth" is also still the place to submit threads for feedback on unfinished songs and also for cover songs you have hosted elsewhere.

Hope you like it!

Clancy

** Note, you must have posted 5 times or more on the forum to be able to add music to our "Members Showcase"

Thanks Clancy,
I uploaded my songs right away - feel a bit guilty about cluttering up the recording booth though!

You shouldn't Jomi... I'll be splitting the Recording Booth up later today so that it works a little better.

JayJay,

hmm, I hadn't thought of that... I'll have a think about a way around it... still you shouldn't be wanting to leave the page anyway, should ya?

Yeah I know what you mean JayJay, to be honest I've done that a few times too half way through listening to a tune too (and cursed) ... I've just got work a way around it. A job for later on today... I have a real job to go to this morning... I work in a bookstore half a day a week to give me some offline sanity.

So that's what you've been doing in your office for the last few days. Good work, Clancy, as always.

Just adding to what I've already said, and say that I'm finding that I am listening more to members recordings etc than I did before, and I believe it's because it's so much easier to access them to listen to than it was before. So thanks for adding this facility Clancy!

That's good to hear Neil... it's always been a shame that some of the real gems that have been posted here have slipped into oblivion because they've dropped off the page in the "Recording Booth" forum. This should put an end to that problem.

If i want to submit an original song do i just upload it to the recording booth? and maybe from there i will see how to get it to members showcase? sorry if i missed something with this question, i been busy and can't spend the time online i would like too

Also as some might know, my recording equipment hasn't been the greatest (i am working on that tho) so the songs recording wise, may not match up to others....is that ok?

Tom, go into the GFB&B Members Showcase forum - pick a category (go into that category) and click on the "upload your music" button!
