Finally it's here! New Members Showcase part of the forum
Well it's been a long time coming but I think we're ready to roll with it.
The new part to the forum is called " The Members Showcase"
What it does and it's features.
Members submit mp3s of their finished songs ( originals and compositions available in the public domain only at this stage) to the category of their choice. Works much the same as submitting a recording to a normal thread in the "Recording Booth" forum here. It needs a title and a short description.
When the the song is submitted by a member the song is also linked from the members profile page under a new heading "My Recordings"
What features does the "Member's Showcase" section of the forum have over the normal forum?
You can add recordings to your own favorites section and come back at any stage and listen to those recordings any time without having to search through endless threads to find things.
Members can leave comments.
There is a built in Flash play button - you don't need to open a player to play the file... just click the orange play button... you can also pause and rewind with the same built in button.
Recordings are categorized by genres.
Each play is logged and the top played songs rise to the top of the "What's Hot List" our own GFB&B chart. These in future will also be shown on the forum home page.
We will be picking Featured Recordings from all genres and these will show at the top of the song list pages in a randomly selected way. For example if you are in the Blues section, you will see the "Featured Recordings" from that genre... you will also see "What's Hot from that genre... this will change depending on which category you are in.
Each genres song page can be sorted in numerous ways... for example by number of plays, by title of song or by members names.
You can also at any stage click on a members name and see all the recordings that have been submitted by that particular member.
What else? can't think of anything right now. I think it is working ok, but if there are any bugs, let me know.
Also, I have made fairly obvious categories... if there are any you would like added, let me know... I just want to add main categories at this stage, but any ideas let me know.
So anyone with original finished songs, please submit them... it doesn't matter if you have submitted them to the "Recording Booth" previously... as we all know, things get lost in there. We want to encourage members to submit to the new section. This will be a permanent way to have your music heard. The normal "Recording Booth" is also still the place to submit threads for feedback on unfinished songs and also for cover songs you have hosted elsewhere.
Hope you like it!
Clancy
** Note, you must have posted 5 times or more on the forum to be able to add music to our "Members Showcase"

Yes, you can edit your recording and update it to a new version any time you want Elle. As long as it's a fairly complete song... upload away.

Hi Clancy, sweet new add-on you've provided
What about a listing for collaborations{multi members}...any chance?

Hi Kenny,
Unfortunately it will only link from one of the members profiles... otherwise it will be a duplicate entry and thread which kind of defeats the purpose a bit... plays will be halved... comments will be doubling up... etc... but I can add a collaboration section... it's just that only one of the collaborators will be able to add the track... I was also thinking of adding a backing track category too. What do you think?

One more question Clancy,
is there a volume control available with the player?

So just for clarification Kenny, you'd rather have a Collaborations category added... so that collaborations are added to that category instead of a genre? Is that right? I noticed Eddie uploaded a couple of collabs today and added them in different genre categories... would it be good to move these?
I'll add the Backing Track section... also any others that anyone can think of let me know and I'll add them in together. I might do it tomorrow though, it's getting late here now... and my old brain is sure to mess something up if I try doing it tonight.

I was thinking more along the lines of say 3 or more members as a collab requirement, as theres a lot of two members only recordings.
and yes a catogory for any collabs, no need to divide it more than that IMO.

No there's not Kenny... that would need a player, this is just a button. It'll have to just be controlled by the volume on your computer for now... I will be adding to this and I'm hopefully going to be able to work out a player integration somewhere along the way... but I probably won't add that for single song plays...but we'll see.

Is it really RB? What would you categorize it under at say "Soundclick"? I'll add an "Other" category if you like... or anything else you think would be suit.

Very cool, Clancy - every time I think that GFB&B just can't get any better than this, you prove me wrong!

I can add that if you like RB... you have so many tunes that you could easily fill up a category all by yourself... so I'm happy to add it in.

WitchyWoman,
Threads can still be posted in the normal "Recording Booth" forum for those wanting feedback and just starting out... actually, I might put up a new forum for that to separate things a bit more.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
