New GFB&B audio/video test chat room... try it out and leave your feedback.
I've set up a test chat room here for GFB&B - http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/forum/testchat.html - you can use audio and video or one or the other. It's not integrated into our database as yet as I wanted to get some feedback before I went ahead and did that.
On the test page you will see two logins, the top one is for a one on one messenger type chat... and the other is a chat room set up. Both have audio video abilities... Just login with your username (you will still show as a guest) as it's not integrated as yet.
Hopefully this will work for us. Let me know how it goes. All feedback welcome.
Cheers
Clancy

Clancy,
I think the whole thing is great and a definite plus to the site.
It is a perfect aid to questions people may have about playing or other things. A whole lot better than typing responses back and forth.
Truely a 100% plus in my opinion. And worth having here.
And yes I agree, that none of these will be perfect and have their limitations.
But one on one seems to work very well.

Is there a button or something that shows up when people are in the room as per the chat room? That might help lure more people in. Just a thought.

Nope, but if you just login to the the messenger login and leave the little window up that says userlist, you will see when others login... no point just staying for a minute and logging out. Use it like you would a desktop Yahoo messenger, msn messenger, skype kind of thing. Login and stay logged in until someone shows up.

Ah! You are clever Clancy. That's why you are the skilled webmistress of this domain! I tried hanging out a bit last night and I had a nice chat with RockerBob and ChucksWoods. We watched and listened to RB play a nice tune for my family during dinner all the way from Colorado. We waved and typed our approval, but I still need a PC mic to fully participate. I'll pick one up. Cool stuff!

Hey folks,
Another indicator of who might be in the video chat room is to look at the lower end of the screen in this post area.

Setting up a video room is also a great way to use the video chat area

Clancy thanks for doing this for us. Had a chat with Eddiez and JayJay who both gave us a little tune , really like it.
Now all i need to do is to find my webcam somewhere behind the maze of wires behind my pc.

Some useful aids
Head phones are needed to prevent feed back from each other when in the chat room.

try logging in as a guest with the name, and it should allow you access.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
Buy it now for only $10 |
