Who wantīs to Jam/record something with me?
Hi guys!
This section doesnt seem to be working properly. I dont know what it is, the concept/idea is good.
However, the "Little Wing" jam we did gave birth in an exellent way. So, right now, i want to offer me to record ANYTHING you like with me. If you want an specific song just write it here and lets record it.
Anything, from a jam to a cover or an original composition, LETS DO IT
Lets have some fun!!

An acoustic song sounds good. I think I'll have time tomorrow.
Music is everybody's possession. It's only publishers who think that people own it.

I'm thinkin' "Friend of the Devil" by the Grateful Dead (if you've never heard of the song nor the band I assure you it's nothing satanic ) Also if you've never heard of them if you do a youtube search of grateful dead and friend of the devil you should have enough background to join it, just be aware the people play it thier own way on a lot of the videos (but I think we should too). I looked for tabs and stuff, and I found this site here, and we're off?
I'll have time tomorrow too.

I'm confused...LOL (which is nothing new!)
Hilch, if you've posted that you're doing those rhythm chords, are there lyrics to that? Or should I work on some? And is your idea to do them in 4/4...or what? I'd need the timing on it.

I've never done a cover before, so I'm not sure what's the best way to go about it... GT, maybe you could take the reins and get us to do the first things first and the second things second?
I was looking at the youtube videos today and they were almost all 1 guitar and vocals, which wouldn't be much of a collaboration... There was one with Jerry Garcia playing with a full band on a late show that can give you all an idea of a full band arrangment is like. Also, I have the studio version of friend of the devil and a live version from dicks picks vol 20 where they play all thier songs slower. I recorded the into's to get a better feel for the tab. The links are here: studio and DP vol 20. After the intro I think its just chords and improvision . From what I understand, the rhythm guitarist doesn't just play chords, he'll play some of the notes, or he'll play inversions, he'll play different fingerings and so on, (which allowed the Jams to go to the next level), so its not just straight strumming as the youtube videos would have you believe. We a ton of stuff we can do differently, whatever we think sounds good
If you learn how to play songs, then you learn songs. If you learn how to improvise, then you learn music.

I've been following this thread and I'm afraid ya'll are gonna miss the weekend unless somebody starts! I am really looking forward to what ya'll come up with ! I'm not sure how all this is done but, I thought someone laid down a track and everyone else came along and added their part , then someone combined them all into one track. Am I missing something?!

I made a quick diagram of G Major and E Minor (quick adataption of my other ones), so we're all on the same page. I started doing the intro and quickly realized I need to know what notes I can add in and what not, so here they are. The circles are where the roots are, the yellows are the perfect seconds, light blue minor third, dark blue major third, orange perfect 4th, red perfect 5th, light green minor 6th, dark green major 6th, light purple minor 7th, dark purple major seventh. So, we dont have to play this song note for note (its a jam band), so looking at this we see what notes are in key, we can play other notes too but they may not sound good when another layer goes on but they might sound good. good luck everyone, lets do it!
(I play a seven string so on the G Major diagram ignore the bottom string that's the low b on a seven string, on the E minor i left out the low b but you can tell it used to be there, the diagrams are std tuning (low to high) Eadgbe)
The related chords for G Major are: G, Am, Bm, C, D, Em and F#diminished
(if you capo the second fret the fingerings are: F (for G), Gm (for Am), Am (for Bm), A# (for C), C (for D), Dm (for Em), Ediminished (for F#dimo7).)
If you dont know the related chords, or you dont know the chords if you capo a fret its fine, you can record a layer of triads. We can do a number of final recordings, like i think it'd be cool if there wasn't even a track of chords, like we could have 2 or 3 tracks of people playing triads instead, there are so many different ways we can go about a grateful dead song.
If you learn how to play songs, then you learn songs. If you learn how to improvise, then you learn music.

Just to remind you's, I have no real skills...just happy trying to add a little sumtin here and there in the background. No offence will be taken if you want more "skilled" jammers. you can check out some of my posts to see what I mean as to where I'm at. I'll be cheering you on either way!!!

Here's something I'm trying to do for the intro on rhythm guitar. This will sound more like the faster version which I like better:
There's 2 parts, the first part is a G Major triad with with first a root then a major 7th:
3rd fret on high E
3th fret on B
4th fret on G
Pluck 5th fret on A then 4th fret on A and Strum the E, B, and G strings along the way.
Then it goes to a C Major triad with notes below it:
Open on high E
1st fret on B
Open on G
Pluck 2nd fret on D, then Open on D, then 3rd fret on A, then Open on A, then 2nd fret on A, then Open on A, then 3rd fret on E and strum the E, B and G strings along the way.
So its a C major triad on the top strings then a major third (with respect to C), a perfect 2nd, a root a 7th, a sixth and a fifth at the end.
Its kinda cool how we have a triad then he adds in different notes that make 7th chords, 9th chords and so on.
I just figured that out, and I'm having trouble playing that, but I figured I post that so other people can try it out or do different variations of it
I've attached jerry's intro that i just did quickly to try to play the rhytm intro. (I did it at 105 bpm)
If you learn how to play songs, then you learn songs. If you learn how to improvise, then you learn music.

The above post is all wrong, there's no need for the rhythm guitarst to play the same thing as lead and play rhythm too! I tired to edit it but it wouldnt let me so I'm doing another post to correct the above one
I think we're gonna have to try out different triads to play the rhythm (I'm postive they aren't playing the full chords, and he plays around with the different pitches of different C triads (he goes back and forth) to create rhythm, if we play the full chords we lost that). The beginning has a G then a C, I just can't figure it out. If you look at the G Major diagram, the Black Red and Blue dots make G major triads, and the orange green and black make C major triads. I've been listening to the track and I'm trying to play the right pitch and rhythm, but i can hear hammer ons and stuff in the rhythm track so I'm taking a break.
So if anyone can make a nice rhythm please post! (as in post your track, anyone post any track for the song!)
If you learn how to play songs, then you learn songs. If you learn how to improvise, then you learn music.
