I read in a article somewhere that all you have to do to record an electric guitar with a computer is to run a wire from your headphone jack on your amp and connect it to your computer. Is this correct? If so, I guess and electric/acoustic would work as well??????

That's pretty much it, HB. Check out Tekker's lesson HERE for more information. He also has several other good lessons about recording. Audacity is a great freeware recording program that a lot of us use.

I've also had much better luck running through a small mixer, as have a couple other guys. Check out THIS thread for more info on that.
