NUI - #12 That question "minor describes the smaller of 2 similar structures" means when two similar types of interval of different sizes are compared, the larger one is called major and the smaller is called minor.

For example the intervals A to C and A to C# are both intervals of a third because they are spaced 3 letters apart (A, B & C) but A to C# (4 frets) is a little larger than A to C (3 frets) so A to C# is a MAJOR THIRD and A to C is a MINOR THIRD.
This applies to 2nds, 3rds, 6ths and 7ths, but not perfect intervals of unison, 4ths, 5ths and octave - For those we use the words augmented and diminished.
