Thank you for all of the responses

Clancy, the word 'boast' used as I did is a fairly common expression, but it was a probably a bad choice - sorry. I know you don't really do that. I got the number (almost 37000) from the top of the page, it's there right now and says 36987.

Anyway, you pretty much answered my question, thank you for that. .

No need to be sorry Jomi. I know how you meant it.

I read an interesting article yesterday. It was mostly about Web 2.0 design but there was an interesting paragraph which said research shows that only around 1% of a site's members contribute regularly and 9% occasionally, the other 90% almost never.

You can read it here - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6653119.stm

How about 'The Old and the Listless'?

I can relate to "lurking" on forums. It takes me a while to test the waters to make sure there are no sharks. Then I try to post where I think that my input has value, that coupled with no expertise on recording to the web has kept me from recording (this is actually to your advantage). And Clancy fear not the big "40" at 60 I feel I have just reached middle age.

From a personal perspective, I only have Pentium 2 laptop, if anyone knows what I can use on this antique I'd love to hear from you . I'm not the greatest guitar player or singer in the world and I originally came on this site to aid the learning process, but since I've been on I've started having a go at songwriting and I even had a go at tabbing my own song today, I would never thought of this if I hadn't come on this site, I do put the odd comment on the recording booth but you may find a lot of people are quite shy and in awe of the brave guys who are recording and don't really know what to say.

Ps. On the subject of being 40, I decided that when I hit Forty which I have, I would start counting backwards so I'm in my late 30's now, unfortunately if I hit 81 I would never have existed at all which could be a problem.

I did post a recording of myself murdering the intro to Highway To Hell and I'd be glad to torture you fine people with more stellar examples of my mad guitar skillz (laugh!) if I ever get the whole recording problem figured out.

I read somewhere that learning to play was a sort of negotiation between you and your guitar. I now believe it.

si16,

Wow that was certainly too. But I do suppose that makes Clancy's
and all the moderator jobs easier. I could not imagine having to control 40k users.

Thank you for the contribution everyone I really do appreciate the response.

Clancy, thank you for saying that, I was worried I caused offence.

Si16
I'd really settled on the answers provided by Clancy, but then I went and read the article you pointed to.
At the moment (looking at the top of the page) membership is 37019 so 1% of that is 370.
All the stuff about 'lurking' or get in, get it and get out - all things I do myself.

Starsailor, you're right about shyness - a big issue for me! Your comments are always welcome, thank you for the ones you left for me!

Volfan
I'd love to hear you, go for it! There are some great lessons on recording by Tekker.

Thanks again everyone.

Thank you for your response Diredigits (love that name)
I was terrified of posting too and it was a huge suprise to find that people actually liked my stuff! It encouraged me to write more and I've done more in a month than in the rest of my life. As for being qualified to critique, I don't suppose there are many of us actually 'qualified' but it's nice to try and help. There doesn't seem to be any of the unnecessarily nasty postings here like on other sites - or maybe the moderators are really sharp and cut them!
I think the recording booth is a fantastic place for beginners to 'have a go' I'd love to be able to help (if I can).
Of course if you want to just listen that's fine too, and I respect that.

That goes for me also Jomi. Love the work you've posted in the recording booth. If you were to cut a cd I would buy it. Thanks for sharing.
