Maybe that explains why Eddie has gone off eating fish..............(wet fish handshakes)

Aw...
That just made me really sad.
I mean, just look at him 10 years ago!
That was a current picture of him in 97!

Wow! I can't believe the shape he's in, judging by that pic. I just read yesterday where EVH claimed in an old "Guitar One" interview that Roth and Hagar liked to keep him drunk in a corner somewhere and say, "Shut-up and just come up with the riffs." Seems he likes to blame his addictions on others.
As far as wifey Valerie Bertinelli leaving him goes -- I say, hey, good riddance. Supposedly, during her acting "heyday" (pff! ), the consensus was that Bertinelli was the biggest b**** on wheels in Hollywood. Had the snottiest attitude and treated people she felt beneath her (which was everybody) with contempt and hostility. I read she absolutely insisted that Roth and Eddie stay at separate hotels while the band was touring back in the day. She didn't want DD's partying ways to rub-off on Snookums.
All in all though, this news (to me anyway) of EVH's poor health is kinda depressing -- as if that needs to be said. I've been a fan since '78.

I hear ya. The pic gravitas posted from "Guitar" might be from his clean & sober period. I remember reading an interview with him right about the time of that pic where he was rejoicing in his newfound sobriety and anticipating how he would get even better on guitar w/o booze slowing him down (although there was no mention of him having a drug problem in the article). They even had a pic of him all "cleaned-up", sporting a near-whitewall haircut and a goatee. It's a crying shame he fell off the wagon.

My friend told me that when Van Halen toured here a few years back, he was lucky enough to go back stage to meet the blessed one.
Prior to actually meeting him, my friend said he was pulled aside by one of Eddie's bodyguards and explicitly ordered that when Eddie reaches to shake his hand that he is to grab Eddie's hand very gently and not to squeeze Ed's hand too hard.
Reason: Eddie's hand is insured for millions of dollars and he didn't want anyone damaging the use of his hand.
Nevertheless, my friend gladly complied and met Eddie, gently shaking his golden hand and now has a great memory to go with it.

And while we're on the subject of meeting our guitar heroes...
I was in my local guitar store the other day checking out the merchandise and buying a few picks when I noticed that the owner had a white Ibanez autographed by Vai hanging on the wall behind the cash register. (He attended the G3 Denver show). We got to talking about Vai and the G3 tours and he related to me how after the concert, while backstage getting Vai to autograph the guitar, Malmsteen came up and asked if he'd like for him to sign it too. Though totally awed at being in the company of two legends at the same time, he politely told him "no." (The store-owner had specifically brought along an Ibanez to be autographed as that's what Vai plays). According to him, Yngwie shot him a dirty look and walked off. Says if he'd only known he would be lucky enough to meet two such guitar greats, he'd have brought along a Strat for Malmsteen to sign. Gee, I should find myself in such a predicament...

Yeah, the article touched on his sobriety for about two paragraphs, before going on for a while about "The first time I ever sang one of my own songs."
Aw, now I'm all sad again
