A song for Dad.
This was inspired by Kirks' beautiful 'Liquid amber'. I put fresh strings on my old 12 string and used the old ones on my poor battered Guild D25 to get the Nashville tuning, err... then I tuned it to DADGAD so...Nashville DADGAD then, am I the first?
Well it's a first for me, as is this multitracking and panning!!
This is a song I wanted to write for a long time now, it's for my Dad, I hope you like it.

Thanks Cshude, I already released the CD, one went to my mother, one each to my 2 sons. Skinnybloke wants to be my manager, he could've had 50% of that!!
When you commented on my last song you said I should try a cheery one, well I'm working on it but it's MUCH harder than I thought it would be, so don't hold your breath!

Another beautiful song, Jomi - thankyou. Your songs always come across so natural and uncontrived. I'm with Fretsource, though - I thought a bridge of some kind (either instrumental or lyrical) would be good. I thought that maybe the third last verse could be turned into a bridge to add a bit of musical interest.

Thanks Doug, very happy that you liked it.
I'm not familiar with the term 'bridge' could you enlighten me please?
I'm hoping to get some time this weekend for some playing/recording so I could try then maybe.
Don't you think that any extra stuff would make it a bit too long?

Les or Fretsource can probably answer better than I but I'll give it a shot.
A bridge is a musical passage that is different than the main melody line. It can be instrumental where it is used to add interest to a song that might otherwise tend to be monotonous. Quite often it is a modulation of the original key - either a 4th or 5th higher but not necessarily so. It can be lyrical as well where it tends to explore a different aspect of the theme presented by the lyrics so far - maybe a different perspective.
For an example, Bruce Springsteen's Streets of Philadelphia...(which I think is an achingly beautiful song)
(just snippets so copyright issues shouldn't apply)
right after the second verse that starts...
"I walked the avenue till my legs felt like stone
I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone"
---
---
the next section is a bridge and goes...
"Aint no angel gonna greet me
Its just you and I my friend
My clothes dont fit me no more
I'd walk a thousand miles
Just to slip this skin"
I thought that by changing that third last verse into a bridge, the song would not necessarily be longer but there would be more musical interest. But it's just a suggestion. The song is very good without it.
-Doug

Nice find SlickCat, when you mentioned the Unicorn song it didn't click, but after listen to the first couple of words it came back that I had heard that once upon a time. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Jomi, I for one would love to hear your version.

Listened to the Unicorn song, thanks Slickcat - are you trying to cheer me up a bit?
I understand the concept of a 'bridge' now too, thanks Doug.
The weekend is here but I didn't have the time I thought I would - car needed two front springs.
Jay Jay, cod please, thank you.
