I've never done a cover before, so I'm not sure what's the best way to go about it... GT, maybe you could take the reins and get us to do the first things first and the second things second?

I was looking at the youtube videos today and they were almost all 1 guitar and vocals, which wouldn't be much of a collaboration... There was one with Jerry Garcia playing with a full band on a late show that can give you all an idea of a full band arrangment is like. Also, I have the studio version of friend of the devil and a live version from dicks picks vol 20 where they play all thier songs slower. I recorded the into's to get a better feel for the tab. The links are here: studio and DP vol 20. After the intro I think its just chords and improvision . From what I understand, the rhythm guitarist doesn't just play chords, he'll play some of the notes, or he'll play inversions, he'll play different fingerings and so on, (which allowed the Jams to go to the next level), so its not just straight strumming as the youtube videos would have you believe. We a ton of stuff we can do differently, whatever we think sounds good

If you learn how to play songs, then you learn songs. If you learn how to improvise, then you learn music.
