I agree with you on the 316 song by EVH. It's such a simple melody but it has that certain something about it that tickles the ol' ears.
Apparently Eddie played the studio version on nylon string and had come up with the tune some time before laying the track down on vinyl. He used to rest the guitar on his wife's (actress Valerie Bertinelli) stomach and play it when she was pregnant with their son Wolfgang.
He was born on the 16th of March, hence the title of the tune 316!

Edit: Of course, Eddie obviously had no title for the melody when he played it prior to his son's birth. Because how would he know his son would be born on 16th March?
