  Fair Use

I can't help but notice a lot of concern over tab, amateur recordings of songs (not re-sold but I suppose it would be fair to construe some benefit goes to the website). Now I think it fair that musicians and music companies don't want folks stealing their products. I like companies to make money, lots of it. But I think some of the industry behavior is excessive.

Not being much of a musician, I can't claim expertise but I would suggest the following to music companies as fair and fair use:
  • A $1 is too much to charge for a song download. Especially if the music hasn't been sold in stores for eons. There's some great stuff out there that deserves access to the market and would benefit from lower prices especially since most music companies don't seem to promote anything but crap these days.
  • When prices and quality are right no-one will steal a song because it won't be worth doing.
  • Quit nickel and diming. It only drives customers away. Most people like free advertising which is all that amature tabs, lessons, and song posts are.

What do you think is fair?
