  Another contemporary folk song

This is a song by Paul Metse who now lives in Kendal in the lake district (UK).
When I heard this song I loved it even though it's now very old. I did some research to find out if the song was based on fact - I couldn't get a definite answer but looking on Google earth I found the Shotover valley and Cardrona valley in the Otago mountain range in New Zealand, all of these places are mentioned in the song.

The song tells of two guys who leave home in search of gold, they find just enough to get by but in the end one of them is drowned in a flood. It begins with the remaining guy getting ready to go home.
I find the song intensly sad, if you ever had your dreams shattered then you probably will too.

I hope you enjoy it.

John

Thank you again Smort and Eddie,
this one is in concert tuning so I can tell you the chords:
(well..it's these chord shapes with a capo 2nd fret)

C Shotover G river your AM gold it is EM waning
And its F years since your G colour I've C seen G
Its C no use just G sitting and AM lady luck EM blaming
I'll pack F up then I'll G the break C clean.

chorus

C Farewell G to the gold that C never I G found
G Goodbye to the C nuggets that F somewhere abound G
for it's C only when G dreaming AM that I see you EM gleaming
Down F in the dark G deep under-C-ground

hope that helps anyone who wants it.
