My new song {lyrics only }

I had a bit of a writting challenge in another forum with another member of that forum where we would write songs and send them via PM to each other . Our latest challenge for each other was to write a song about our selves and how we feel see ourselves through our eyes trying to be totally honest with in the lyrics ..

It would have been easy to look back at events that happened in our lives but this is how I see myself when I look into in to a mirror , a honest evaluation ..

I am no oil painting and I know that ...Its' not completely finished in my mind but I thought I would try it in a forum to see what sort of response I would get ..

TREVOR!!

How do you see me
How do you perseve me
When you look into my eyes
Can you read the despise in me

Looking into the mirror
Do I know who I see
Do I reckonise this guy
Looking back at me

With skin ageing like leather
Is this really the boy named Trevor
The curly hair is almost gone
Just like when I was born

How do you see me
How do you perseve me
When you look into my eyes
Can you read the despise in me

"It's your song, your words, your singing, your music and your playing, and it's always impressive when somebody takes on the challenge of doing that." Especially when that person takes on board the advice he's been given, and is willing to try even harder next time out. It's hard when you first start trying to write songs, especially when someone says "well this doesn't work and that doesn't sound right..." but if that criticism is CONSTRUCTIVE, and offers a reason or reasons, it's a little easier to take.

I've seen a HUGE improvement in Trevor's writing (apart from the spelling! ) over the past year or so - he's always trying, and striving to do better each time. It IS inspiring when you see raw talent gradually being honed, when you see a loose collection of lines and phrases beginning to take shape and make songs.

"You inspire me to get off my backside and do more songwriting myself..... maybe tomorrow..
But look out... won't be too long and I'll be comin' after ya mate...." it's already tomorrow here, you got that pen going yet Chris?

Trev's realised one of the fundamental basics of songwriting - like any other musical discipline, it has to be worked at, practised, honed and sharpened. He also tends to write mostly from experience - writing about what you know best always works.

I think it was Lennon who said "genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration" - I'm no genius, but I can see the value of putting the hard work in!

It was Thomas Edison, the American inventor and holder of over a thousand patents on various ideas. It's something that I've always believed as well, although that 1% of inspiration can sometimes pay remarkably good dividends.

Yes mate, I have made a start - both with music and words. I've got three on the go at the moment, but don't expect the CD anytime soon.

I don't usually have too much trouble knocking out words. I've written all the words for two musicals that had successful runs in local theatres here - and, amazingly enough, got paid a modest amount - but it was the words only. I didn't supply a note of music. So the part I'm working on is improving my musical skills, but above all trying to develop some sort of rough singing ability. It really narrows your options if you can't add a bit of voice, so I've been trying learn a bit more in those areas - even if it's only enough to be able to notate a part for somebody else to sing. All interesting stuff, and a good excuse for yet another musical detour!! I'm getting there though.

I've got a few music goals for this year, and writing and recording a couple of songs to post here is on the list. But I need to get a couple of those other goals nailed down a bit more first.

Cheers,

Chris

My only excuse for my bad spelling is { and this will get the all the Aussies laughing }

I speak Ozzie not engRish { that was a joke OK }

Thank you for continued support of my work Vic , it really does mean alot to me over the last few years you have always pointed out ways to improve , that means alot to a guy who started the guitar only a few years ago and thought if I wrote my own songs then I could play them easier than learning someone elses song ..

Boy oh Boy was I wrong ....Its' a lot harder than I ever imagined ...

But thanks to a few good men { sounds like a good title for a movie ha ha } I have tried to get better and better , still along way to go but one day I'll be able do what my mates like Vic and others can do ...

Cheers

Trev...
