"It's your song, your words, your singing, your music and your playing, and it's always impressive when somebody takes on the challenge of doing that." Especially when that person takes on board the advice he's been given, and is willing to try even harder next time out. It's hard when you first start trying to write songs, especially when someone says "well this doesn't work and that doesn't sound right..." but if that criticism is CONSTRUCTIVE, and offers a reason or reasons, it's a little easier to take.
I've seen a HUGE improvement in Trevor's writing (apart from the spelling!

) over the past year or so - he's always trying, and striving to do better each time. It IS inspiring when you see raw talent gradually being honed, when you see a loose collection of lines and phrases beginning to take shape and make songs.
"You inspire me to get off my backside and do more songwriting myself..... maybe tomorrow..
But look out... won't be too long and I'll be comin' after ya mate...." it's already tomorrow here, you got that pen going yet Chris?
Trev's realised one of the fundamental basics of songwriting - like any other musical discipline, it has to be worked at, practised, honed and sharpened. He also tends to write mostly from experience - writing about what you know best always works.
I think it was Lennon who said "genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration" - I'm no genius, but I can see the value of putting the hard work in!
