I have come back to the guitar after more than 20 years away! Yes I am an old fart.

My first serious turn on to music was seeing Elvis Costello on on TV in 1977. I also heard Rush for the first time that year. I put together a small kit of drums and began to jam with a guitar player. Next I started ushering at a venue here in Cincinnati and was lucky enough to work two B.B. King shows in 1979. I then saw Fandango (with Joe Lynn Turner who sang with Deep Purple, Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen) at a live outdoor show that same year. I bought an Epiphone Classical around 1980-81 and enjoyed noodling with this for a while, while I continued to play drums through out high school. I briefly sang in a rock band in 1982. I bought a 1964 Fender Mustang in 1984 but still just noodled, never really learning any chord progressions or runs. I worked as a sound man from 1983 to 1985. This gave me the opportunity to work around some pretty diverse acts including Wendy O. Williams, Exciter, Alan Holdsworth, and even Prince. In 1985 I walked away from music totally to become a soldier. After this I went to college and then became a family man. I haven't made much time for live music since '85. But I discovered jazz last year and I am really serious about learning guitar now.

I bought an Ibanez AFS75T and a Fender "Eighty-Five" amp recently and now I just need to discipline myself to practice and maybe DVD/CD-based lessons.
