wow.... that was REALLY cool!
I've always heard that guitars sound better as they age ...and it's often compared to wine. This is the first time though that I've heard the emphasis on... actually PLAYING the guitar because otherwise - an old guitar is just an old guitar. I like the whole philosophy behind sort of... growing with your guitar and how you play your guitar can sound AMAZING ...and no one can quite duplicate your playing by using your guitar - it's almost like... you grow with your guitar as your guitar grows with you. That was really cool - thanks so much for sharing the clip with us!

Makes no difference on an acrylic guitar.

I saw this on u tube, the speaker is Robert Godin, the maker of Godin guitars, also the Seagull, Art and Lutherie, Simon and Patrick, Norman, and Lapatrie Guitars.
Interesting concept, probably can't hurt.

Does a $300 Epiphone guitar have a good top? I've been wondering if I should keep it as a "trophy" or not.

I have often heard the following buying advice: if you try a guitar in a store and want it, make sure you walk out the store with the guitar you tested, because another guitar of the same brand/model will sound/play different.
I'd say those 2 guitars were different from the start?
Anyway, i can believe that wood changes over time, and that these changes affect the sound of the guitar, but as these differences will grow at a very gradual rate, will you even hear those differences if you play your guitar every day?
It's like standing in front of the mirror and wondering exactly -when- you gained those 5 extra kilo's

i just happened across this thread and just happened to buy a new acoustic a week ago with all solid woods. got me thinking, seems a logical explanation and an interesting one... but again sound and tone are still and will always be a personal preference, even though there is a threshold most can agree on and i have to believe a 40 year old guitar that has been played everyday is gonna sound better than a 40 year old that hasn't been played at all. in that spance of time it becomes almost common sense. so to my thinking, there's some truth to the notion. thanks a bunch for the info, i'm likely to remember this one for a while!

wow
I'm no scientist and tech stuff makes my head hurt but this is interesting . I have been trying to get more sound out of an old cheap epiphone with some good results so far . the next thing I might try is strap it to the tailgate of my 4x4 hook up a speaker to the sound hole plug in some Tommy Emmanuele and go mudding for a few hours. if I do I'll let you know how that works out.
