It is my middle and ring finger. Hmmm. You will have to just see how it goes. If your index finger gives you problems,it is pretty simple to play basic chords at the nut with your middle,ring and baby finger instead. Don't worry too much about doing full bar chords. You will notice that Kirk rarely does them in his lessons.
You may want to look at developing your style using bits of chords or chord fragments.
You can also specialize in
slide playing which uses less finger involvement.
Another option, though we don't practice it here is open tunings. You could play like Richie Havens,basicly a single finger bar to play chords with.
For now just go through the basic lessons,build up your finger strength and flexibility and see how it goes. Let us know how your doing and ask questions if you get stuck.
