Arrgh tell me my fingers will get this....

Chords are going to kill me....

I can not even get the "A MAjor"
three fingers, three strings, one fret...
No weird stretches.. nothing... and I can not
stop muting the High E string which is supposed
to be unfretted......

I feel useless and I am not used to that...

I taught myself to use a sewing machine, and how to crochet
(I know girlie stuff - RIGHT?)

OK on my own I bought and learned how to use a SCROLL SAW
and jig saw and can do some pretty intricate stuff - took a bit of time
but I never felt quite so inept as I do today....

Is this cramp I get as I try to tip my fingers up - NORMAL???
my whole family is musical... my brother play guitar and I so want to do this....
just for me... to sit and play and sing.... its in my heart but apparently not my fingers....

On that note
Has any one heard the song Beautiful SOul - jesse McCartney....
I love the gutair in that song...
can anyone tell me if it is using a pick or fingered??
I can not tell there are places where I swear its both??????

I wanna do -THAT>>>>>>>>>>>
not today - but in a year - that woudl be great!!

Help guys - am I gonna get this??
has anyone ever been this useless??

Thanks

I find the when I switch from the tripod A to a D my index finger stays put, but when I switch back from the D back to the A my ring stays on the string and slides into position and the other 2 fingers move. Weird eh?

First of all I am new on this site and other than my post in introductions this is my first reply here.
One great thing about the guitar (and other instruments) is the rewards you get in small success's. Everytime you practise some small reward comes your way. It is what keeps us coming back. Your goal might be to play to a packed house at the ACC one day but the joy is the fun in getting there.
You are on the right track. Practice that A chord and within a day or two you will wonder why you thought it was difficult. Then build upon that and so on.
If I can offer some small advise here:
Understand/learn how that Achord is built. All major chords (without extensions) are derived from the 1st,3rd and 5th notes of the major scale. Therefore scales and chords are interchangable, you can't have one without the other so to speak.
So, in the case of A you have the following notes A, C# and D. Now you can have more notes but that is another lesson. However, in open chords like the one's I am sure you are learning some of notes are duplicated nad that is o.k. because it make's the chord sound fuller.
Try this as an exercise, find those 3 notes in a group elsewhere on the neck(hint: 5th fret low E string is an A note). You might find that another version of that chord is easier to play. Just because the tab of a song says to play it there doesn't mean you must! :-)
I wish you luck and I hope you take this advise in the vein for which I intended it to be, as friendly help.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
