Lets hear it for the noob's

Ok noob's

Any other noob's feel like pushing the boat out and see what we come up with? I am kind of thinking that a noob in this case would be under 18 months of playing or even someone playing longer but might lack a bit of confidence or if you feel better suited with likes of my crap playing over Cshude, RockerBob, Icjones and GT to name a few of the greats on here.

I think most of us noobs are into blues so again maybe lets try something bluesy in "E" as in easyer than the rest.

Again lets build this from the ground up so we would need for starters:

Drums
Bass line
Lead Guitar
Rhythm Guitar
Acoustic rhythm Guitar
Singers
Home recording guru
Horn Section (I can but try)
Sax (hmmmm I really am pushing now)
Cheerleaders (doesnt have to be noob's)
Motivators

This will be a mellow collab with a view of pushing ourselves a little bit further so let me know if you are up for it.

Twasnt so much a matter of using it as they want.. Moreso, that once its mixed down its impossible to seperate the tracks.
So it wont be possible to mix it... Level wise..

We can decide on an order to play things, and then whoever mixes it and work from that.

Everybody's contributions sounding good.

Looks like the tricky thing is trying to keep the tracks separate so that some parts can be faded down a bit in spots to leave a bit more room for someone else to come to the front for a few bars. Is it possible to record each track separately - percussion, rhythm, lead etc. or is that too awkward in this situation? Sorry I can't offer more constructive suggestions, but I'm a real noob at mixing and recording.

Learning lots here. I won't have time to contribute much to this one - except applause from the grandstand - but I'm hoping that by early Feb I'll have my gear set up and working, and have a bit more time to try and join in some of these collaborations.

Thats very nice, love the growling tone! Just what this needs.

I am at the studio tonight so I will record a clean bass line (hopefully sterio this time) and also some live drums if I can get them mic'ed up ok. Cshude gave me some tips that I will put in place tonight and get this organised a bit better.

Keep it up lads, sounding good

i dont know about other software packages, as i use Adobe Audition, but i imagine it is possible with everything else, otherwise the software isnt worth persevering with.

If you add the Backing Track into the multi track, as say Track 1.
Then arm track 2 for recording.. And you possibly have to set it to playback track 1 while recording to track 2, im not sure, its not necessary with Audition it does it by default.

Then record your bit, to the BT. Then somewhere in the save options, you should be able to save only track 2, to file. without having it mixed with the BT.

I couldnt get Kristal to work for me, period, and couldnt bear the Audacity interface, so im not able to help with specific steps for this programs. Perhaps somebody else can.

Then posting your track, people can add the BT to their Multitrack software, and your track, and hear them both together. Or of course, you could post a multi track with the BT plus your contribution, as well as the single track of your contribution.. If people multi tracking it themselves is too complicated

Sounds like you guys are really getting into it here. Those are some nice tracks you threw down Krissovo. Maybe I'll sit down and see if I can contribute anything to the mix.

Matty - it's easy-peasy to save just the current (recorded) track on my MicroBR (which is what I'm recording on) - I just want to make sure that whatever way we do it causes minimal headaches for whoever's going to do the final mixdown. I don't know how easy it is to match up the tracks on the timeline, etc., as I don't mess with that side of things yet.

I volunteered to do the mixdown on this project. Here's what would work best for me:
post ONLY the part that you have played, by itself. This will allow me to plop the track into the main mix.
- also, if you want me to try some additional fx, etc. just let me know in the comments.

At some point, we'll need to put a limit on it, then I'll get to work and see if I can make everyone sound awesome.....

If you can then you have the makings of the next god!

Sorry lads, work commitments meant that I could put down a better BT to start this as I have only just finished.

Matty, do you fancy doing a bass line for us? My next chance will be at the weekend

I sat down last night and tried playing the 12 bar blues thing using Krissovo's work as an example. That's actually the first time I've really tried playing the 12 bar thing, so thanks for steering me in that direction, Kris. You've inspired me to work on stuff more than once.

I don't have it smoothed out yet, but I'll probably practice it some more at lunch. My question is... are we going to switch every 12 bars between participants and let them do the rhythm and lead for their 12 bars or is that too simplistic? Or are we just going to gather up contributions and see where the flow goes? At this point my work is simply a variation on what Kris has done. I'll keep poking my brain for some new ideas.

Thanks Fly, I suppose the whole purpose of this collab is push us noob's a little bit further without to much (self) intimidation. Initially I would suggest that we each a do a rhythm and a lead and then we can mix it up. I will complete the tracks to a higher standard over the weekend (working 14 hrs a day at the moment). The tab is as follows if you want to have a go at the bass line (works well on guitar as well):

A
I-------------------I
I-------------------I
I-------------------I
I-----7-7-5-5-------I
I-------------7-7---I
I-5-5---------------I
D7
I-------------------I
I-------------------I
I-----7-7-5-5-------I
I-------------7-7---I
I-5-5---------------I
I-------------------I
E7
I-------------------I
I-------------------I
I-------------------I
I-----2-2-0-0-------I
I-------------2-2---I
I-0-0---------------I

So with 12 bar the order is (sorry if I am insulting your intelligence) A,A,A,A,D7,D7,A,A,E7,D7,A,E7. I did play around with it slightly as it is played using minor pentatonic scales but that is the rough tab.

I have a bass so I'll lay down a bass line separately and submit it. Don't worry about insulting my intelligence. I was already putting a flat 7th in my playing but didn't really think about what it was until you posted that. Every tidbit of info helps.

Here's a sample of the direction I'm going with this....

http://music.panelmagic.com/noobblues_sample.mp3

It's got the drum track mixed in so it's not meant to be taken as a contribution to the final. I've been laying laminate flooring in my house so it's taken time from my playing. I still intend to monkey with the bass contribution. Plus I'd like to come up with some lead lines.

Don't know if my acoustic will fit in but back in post 14 the first noobies blue in A MP3 I was addin a strum rythem (the other thing i posted there, a solo thing, it didn't work) A7, D7, E7 strummed seemed to fit. If that is still gonna be the basic backtrack sound i'll post what i do here with the one krissovo did plus by it self. If things change i will see
